Hello friends, today I decided to create a post dedicated to the famous Christmas moss, it is one of the most purchased to plant in aquariums due to its great resistance to little controlled environments, you will be surprised how the plant looks at first glance and what it looks like when it is we see with some increases, it has a scientific name: "Vesicularia Montagnei" and despite being widely used in aquariums there are few studies focused on it! Let's see what we find out.🤔👨‍🏫👨‍🎓

img_1272.jpg

I think that in order to understand a little the physiology and morphology of the plant we must first have the basic knowledge of learning to differentiate normal plants, with the "lower ones", actually this is how plants are grouped, there are higher, lower plants, then further down we find the angiosperms, bryophytes and others ... The mosses were classified the division: (Bryophytes), here we find plants of small size and that do not have a developed vascular tissue, or as in botany they are also said plants without woody tissue, bone lack "xylem".👨‍💻👨‍🎓

One of the characteristics that make up this group is that these small plants need an ecosystem or abundant water, that is, the plant has to be completely submerged to develop, on a global scale the studies in this group have a certain level of importance since "they are the second most extensive in green plants "and like all plants are autotrophic species, they make their" food "by absorbing inorganic substances!💥💦

I will mention the main characteristics that highlight the bryophytes beginning that they are small plants, in the life cycle it is necessary to emphasize that it is composed of two stages: the gametophyte and the sporophyte, the haploid cell in mosses is dominant, which would be the opposite. of ferns, then the diploid cell (sporophyte) is too small and has a short life span! The gametophyte that would be the "body of the moss" has a spiral with plants, and unlike woody plants these have rhizoids, that is, an aquatic "root" that absorbs nutrients!😮😮

So far science has discovered almost 20 thousand species of mosses on the planet, and it is believed that there are many more to discover, if you want to do studies on mosses you would have to go to Mexico this country has more than 1500 described species, mosses love aquatic environments We can also find terrestrial mosses but they are in very humid environments, terrestrial mosses have an important role in preventing erosion and storing water, in aquatic environments these mosses, as the species we are studying, serve as food for arthropods and fish, they also help to create oxygen and break down toxins.💚💚

LIFECYCLE🌿👨‍🎓/CICLO DE VIDA👨‍🏫😲

Here we can see all the organelles that participate in the reproductive cycle of Christmas moss, first the male gamete that is in the form of a "spore" inside the capsule opens and goes out into the water, then that spore travels to the tips of the "false stems "Where the female sexual organ is located, the wife arrives here there is a" fertilization "and a new moss is born.💥💥

HABITAT🌿👨‍🎓/HABITAT👨‍🏫😲

img_20220105_163003.jpg

I think that mosses are almost "cosmopolitan" we could even get mosses in arid areas, where there is water and humidity, we will find a moss, from the high mountains to different types of microclimates, if you have an aquarium you probably also have moss there! And if you don't have one, you should buy it because they are excellent for shrimp reproduction! What it tells us regarding that they are not vascular plants means that their roots are not in the earth absorbing nutrients, since the moss has to be completely in contact with the water to absorb nutrients and sunlight!💥💥

Here we can clearly see the rhizoids or false roots of this moss, as you can see they do not need to be in the ground to absorb nutrients they do it directly from the water, the rhizoids can also provide fixation and help to fix a moss to a substrate!🌱☘

And of course bryophytes like this moss photosynthesize in order to convert solar energy into organic matter, mosses generally do not require a lot of light, but there are some species that do have a great light demand!💥💥

This moss does not require great attention inside the aquarium, if we put some liquid nutrients then we would help the plant to grow faster, they have a slow growth unlike other mosses, they are native to Asia, they support a temperature of between 18-28 degrees, although it is optional if we inject CO2 the moss grows faster and healthier!🤔🤔

Saludo.
