A POST ABOUT PALEONTOLOGY🧠👨‍🏫 / UN POST SOBRE PALEONTOLOGÍA🦕🦖

In this small post we are going to deal with a very interesting topic, we are going to see the entire field that paleontology encompasses, many people have bad information because when they hear that word they relate a man with a brush digging up a dinosaur bone, if we think so then we are taking away a lot of merit from such a curious science, but a fossil can not simply be a "bone" it can also be a "plant", so it is a paleontologist not only stops to analyze bones also microbial remains, plants and other tissues that can explain the past of the primitive earth!🤔🤯🦴🦴👀🌿

Well let's say that paleontology began to receive historical importance in ancient Greece, approximately in the 6th-7th century BC, in reality this science was not known to study a specific field then let's say that the scholars of the time were those who carried out From the "fossil" studies, it is known that Pythagoras was one of the first to enter this fascinating and mysterious field. Incredibly, there were those who thought that when paleontology was studied it was to decipher some imitations that were imperfect in nature.👨‍🏫👨‍🎓

The issue was so difficult to understand in ancient times that it was debated for more than a thousand years, of course we remember that in ancient times who had the last voice in command was the Catholic Church, and to find living organisms that existed long before the appearance of Adam. and eva had no theological sense! The Catholic Church always presented this topic as orthodox and illogical to study what made the paleontological advance progress in very small steps! In the book of Genesis the earth was only a few years old, and it did not follow a timeline along with the dinosaurs! the argument of the Catholics was to assume that species were created in a period of time! "God" did not create some animals that became extinct and that are not related in the bible!🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♂️

The Catholic Church with the passing of the years lost power and in the seventeenth century our society became more and more understood in earth sciences, that is when the middle of the 17th century paleontology "was reborn from among dead sciences" and began to gain more and more importance in science taught in universities! the first branch to begin their formal studies was paleobiology, characters like Hook and Steno were making increasingly interesting discoveries that aroused the interest of many scientists! The Catholic Church began to "update" and begin to listen to the sciences, which is why an extinction of ancient animals was raised in "the great flood."😮🤔

Paleontology began to form part of a true and important science when the great modern sciences began to invade universities around the world, in the 18th century Darwin and Lamarck gave the final blow ... And with the formulation of the theory of species paleotology was already a formal science with a lot of weight deciphering the past of many living organisms! at this point paleontology was not a supporting "science" now it would be a totally independent science!😍😍

IMG_7119.JPG

IMG_7125.JPG

I was in doubt about which definition to take to place it in the post because there are many, but I liked this one: then we could define paleontology as a science that deals with the study of all life on earth through the analysis of fossils, but a Fossil is not just a bone, it is the remains of plants, bacteria, animals, fungi! everything that is organic! I say organic because it also studies unicellular organisms, these living beings over the years are transformed into "rocks" or footprints that are engraved on a "rock". My respect because it is not only about dinosaurs! I always had respect and esteem for paleontologists because a historian has a "record" to support his theories, but a paleontologist sometimes does science with "eyes tied."🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♂️👨‍🏫

In summary, paleontology studies living beings that no longer exist because they have become extinct, so that paleontology has weight in formulating theories and discoveries it needs to work with "clues", "traces" but what happens when there is no type of evidence to study a living being? easy we go to animals or plants whose ancestors lived in the era that were extinct and are used as a point of comparison! this is done a lot with birds and dinosaurs, or crocodiles!💥

I had already mentioned a little the work carried out by paleontology but we can go a little deeper and it is that this science is in charge of deciphering great enigmas that unite the past of the earth with the present, we are referring to one or several stages of the earth where neither Even the ancestor of our species was present, this at the same time is a small problem because when a detective solves a mystery he tries to look for witnesses to help him solve "a case" but hardly a paleontologist has a witness to discover some "mystery", a paleontologist cannot create his science without using biology and geography! and it is with these two sciences that he discovers the past of many living organisms!🤩🤩

Paleontology is like physics when it discovers the origin of the universe, let's say they do the "heavy" work since paleontologists are in charge of discovering the mysteries such as: "where our species comes from", "what happened to ancient animals "," what is the fate of the planet's species ", and despite being a very difficult job, little by little paleontology has made great strides in earth science, discovering, for example, the link between dinosaurs and current species!🤔😮

IMG_7138.JPG

IMG_7139.JPG

Paleontology had to be divided into 3 important branches to be able to be organized and to be able to classify and divide by category the various studies it carries out, starting with Paleobiology: this is one of the most interesting branches of paleontology because it studies the living beings that inhabited the past here then we come across subdivisions such as: "(palaeozoology, palaeoecology)" the first studies the animals of prehistory, then the second studies primitive ecosystems, of course we cannot forget to mention the (paleobotany) and this refers to the study of any tree that inhabited prehistory!😆😆

The taphonomy, which is probably the first time you read this scientific term, focuses its study on how fossilization processes occur, here we also come across 2 subdivisions (biostratinomy) and (fossyldiagenesis), summarizing that both give a focus on the behavior of fossilization at different depths in the earth.💥💥

We move on to the last branch of paleontology, Biochronology, it is also a very little mentioned term but it plays an indispensable role in science because thanks to this branch a link can be made in a timeline between a fossil and a prehistoric era!🤔😮

Of course we must define that it is a fossil since it is directly linked to paleontology, we could say that the fossil can be a remnant of any ancient material of organic-biological origin, whose origin precedes the oldest times on earth.🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♂️
