My 750Gigabytes hard disk crashed; like dead. Tons of work lost.

I've had so much positive energy all through yesterday until it was evening. You know how your mind constantly reminds you to do something and you don't, then you regret it later. That's the exact case of my predicament today.

Since I started doing delicate jobs[jobs that should never go missing] as a photographer, I have always had this constant reminder to purchase a backup hard drive. Anytime the thought came up, I brushed it aside and backed my negligence with the fact that I'm careful with stuff. And I'll never be in a position where I lose my harddrive or it crashed. Hahaha! I'm such a big clown. I played myself.

Yesterday, in the evening, the worst happened; the harddrive crashed. I lost tons of jobs. Both delivered & undelivered, important & unimportant. I don't even know where to start from. I've applied all the tech knowledge I have; no results.

The hard drive is literally dead. I've pulled it out of the system and tried to access it externally; no hope. It's back in my system and sometimes my laptop detects it, sometimes it doesn't. If it does, it refuses to boot up. I had luck the last time I rebooted the system and I'm trying to install Windows again hoping it'll work.

Well, I don't think it will. The installation progress has been stuck on 8percent for several hours and counting. I don't know what to tell my clients. I don't know what to do.

I'll appreciate if anyone can share information on how to revive the hard drive. Please help me.

Well, experiences teach us. I just don't like bad experiences. I'll be fine.

that sucks!

do you see it in the bios? does bios see the hard drive? if it does could be that file system on it went crazy. One solution could be to try to boot it on linux system. It would be nice to find someone who knows linux. Hope you did not format it before installing windows again.

as for undelivered stuff, it is most probably your recent work. try to recover files from your sd card. you will be surprised what you can recover, even if you format it.

Unfortunately, Linux OS are rarely used in these parts.

This would have been if I use a particular SD card. We've got over 5 SDcards at the studio and they change hands at different times. Some could be with my colleagues in other states. And after sometime is in my hand again. They are literally the same color and model. I can't tell which one is which one.

That's not even the major problem, the undelivered jobs are old stuff. The client has just refused to pay.

Lol. Didn't really mean the jinx part.

But it's quite unfortunate why it had to happen as a coincidence. I was rendering an intro project in After Effect which I had just finish making for a friend while I decided to go through my hive blog. Then I came across your post and I was reading through your post where you shared about your damaged hard drive. As I was reading through my laptop gave a notice sounds that there was an error with the video I'm trying to render. I didn't know what was really wrong. It was telling me it wasn't getting enough memory on the Hard Drive to render the video. So I decided to clear all running Apps from Task Manager. After that my PC was still hanging so I then decided to restart the PC. It shutdown properly not until when it was about to restart then I discovered it was not coming on again. It was displaying a message saying "SMART Hard Disk error". I've tried some online step in getting it fixed but still my laptop isn't still coming up.

Whoa! Sorry man. I think there's still hope of making it work. For me, I have to get a new hard drive

Sorry man, that sucks. Run a live Linux OS from a USB (or DVD drive if you've got it) and see if it can access the drive so you can copy off the files.
