En cuanto al robot, este es conocido como VineScout y fue desarrollado por científicos de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia y la Universidad de la Rioja en conjunto con iniciativas privadas desarrollado para toda la Unión Europea. El objetivo es mejorar los cultivos vinícolas para un mejor rendimiento de estos pero haciendo uso de la menor mano de obra posible.

VineScout utiliza la inteligencia artificial para desplazarse, mediante el sistema de visión 3D estereoscópica LiDAR. Fue desarrollado para circular entre los espacios que hay entre los viñedos pero en sus inicios surgió un problema, resulta que no contaba con la tecnología e instrumentos suficientes para recorrer los viñedos por la noche, algo que era necesario pues los productores requerían medir la temperatura y el estado de los viñedos durante la noche.

Posee un sensor de infrarrojos y una cámara multiespectral que utiliza para medir la temperatura de las hojas de los viñedos.

El VineScout utiliza energía solar para transportarse. Gracias a la medición de temperatura que el robot realiza los vinicultores pueden consultar el estado de los viñedos en tiempo real y con eso determinar si las uvas ya están maduras o si algunas vides necesitan más o menos riego.
