My Professional Career Instrumentation in Home Technology of the Future.
Hello friends of Hive, on this occasion I share a somewhat different topic than what I usually publish as some will know I am a Musician Guitar Player but I must clarify that this is not my professional career, about 3 years ago I graduated as an Engineer in Instrumentation and Process Control, Today I wanted to share with you a topic that has caught my attention for a while and that is Home Automation and its relationship with my career.
Home automation for those who have no idea what it is, is basically defined as the technology that encompasses a series of systems and programs that are capable of automating any home, home automation intervenes in areas as remote as security, energy or even the communication. The control is always the owner of the house since with a mobile device (Smartphone) or Tablet it is the perfect tool for each of the elements of the house, and the great advantage is that the system can be controlled both from inside and from outside of the house.
Home automation is commonly known as smart home technology, for example with home automation we can save energy and take care of the environment by setting the lights to turn off at the time of daybreak. Also turn on the lights of a room when entering detecting the presence of a person and likewise turn off when they leave the room, turn on the garden sprinklers in front of a certain temperature outside or lower the blinds even though we are many kilometers away. Logically, home automation uses at the same time or is necessary to be able to use home automation for Electricity, Electronics and Computing.
This is where my professional career as an instrumentalist comes in, the instrumentation covers a bit of everything I said earlier, although instrumentation and process control is applied more in the industrial area, having knowledge of it allows the automation of integrated systems that are implemented in such a house.
Since in a home automation installation.
Yes or yes we will find these components: a management center, sensors (devices that detect physical or chemical quantities), actuators (they are devices that transform a type of energy to activate a certain process), communication media and terminal devices.
As an example of home automation technology we have the house of the Fictional Character Tony Stark with the Jarvis operating system / voice recognition from the famous movie “Iron Man”.
The instrumentation is in charge of evaluating in this case the different variables that may occur temperature, pressure, flow, among others.
You wonder how the instrumentation in home automation would act?
First, a control system can be implemented so that the house acts alone in case of any eventuality, for example if you are sleeping or you are not in the house and there is a gas leak, there is carbon monoxide in the environment, a monoxide detector is placed of carbon and this sends a signal to the plant and the plant evaluates the amount in the environment and sends the gas, water or electricity supply to be cut off through an electrovalve.
Another application would be to coordinate the irrigation by sprinkling, to link it with the meteorological system, for example if the system says that it is going to rain in the next 3 days, the irrigation does not act directly for those 3 days and then as the temperature or temperature increases. Meteorological program predicts that the sun will continue to water again, it can even be made to give you a warning to be aware.
The home automation system can be programmed to detect the presence of a person by means of photoelectric sensors, for example, when a house door is opened, it detects the presence of a human being, this is used in most cases as an intrusion security system as well as it serves so that when detecting the presence it opens or closes the door automatically.
Among other applications, it can be automated from a coffee maker, gates, blinds and even a Jacuzzi.
Usually in some houses the most common application of the instrumentation that we find is a Hydropneumatic System.
Hydro-pneumatic systems serve to maintain constant pressure in the white water pipes inside a house, office or purification plant. These systems allow the liquid to come out at the proper pressure and flow, regardless of the distance to which the equipment and appliances that demand water are located.
To complete home automation, it represents a very innovative technology of the future with the aim of improving energy efficiency, security, guaranteeing the well-being of human beings, providing the ease of everything being automatically where through a network connection we can control remotely either electrical appliances, as previously explained lights, heating and cooling system and electrical outlets on the other hand the implementation of an intrusion detection system which includes elements such as alarm system, surveillance cameras, smoke detectors and other elements related to security.
