Are aliens just too busy to come visit?

For as long as I can remember, the night time sky has always fascinated me. There is something about the stars and planets that I just find magical/mystical, I don't know. I remember every year I would ask for a telescope for Christmas. Every year something else would take priority and it wasn't until I was into my thirties that I finally got my first telescope.

Unfortunately, I would soon realize they are much harder to use than I originally thought. I still have that telescope, but through a series of moves the stand was damaged, so I am not even sure it is usable anymore.

The idea of aliens was never at the forefront of my mind. Sure, I watched all the scifi shows and read all the scifi books when I was younger (and still today), but I never really saw aliens as something that could actually exist.

Fast forward to today and I am older and (hopefully) wiser. You would think that might make me even more skeptical about the idea that aliens exist, but in fact it is the opposite.

Knowing now how big the world is and how small we are in relation to it, it's difficult to imagine that somewhere out there, there isn't life.

I think part of the reason I never really gave the idea of aliens a second thought had to do with the way I was raised. I was brought up in a strict Christian household. Unlike some people who go the polar opposite of that upbringing as soon as they leave the nest, I still hold close and try to live out many of the values that were instilled in me.

That being said, being from that kind of environment it is pretty easy to understand why aliens were never top of mind for me. It wasn't until I was introduced to a series of books by none other than CS Lewis that things started to change for me. Unlike The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe series, this other one is science fiction and takes place in space. It explores a world where there are many races across the galaxy, but still a God.

Very similar to evolution (despite what they may tell you), the two don't have to be mutually exclusive. If you choose to believe it, even created things can evolve.

I apologize, this isn't meant to be a theological post, it isn't about religion or dogma or any of that, it is about aliens. I just felt I should give you some background before diving in.

If you have been following the news over the past couple years, there has been some pretty exciting information released from the government. These classified files that they are finally making available to the public have some really interesting statements, videos, and other goodies.

It's safe to assume that given the propensity for the government to keep things secret, if this is what they are choosing to release to us, it is only the tip of the iceberg.

I've watched some of the videos and read some of the accounts. The videos honestly don't hit me quite as hard as the accounts do. I can understand why you may not accept the credibility of the person giving the accounts, but what was their motive then?

Was it a hoax? I have a hard time accepting that. Maybe I am wrong, who knows.

What I do know is up until now, we really haven't seen any real concrete evidence for the existence of aliens. It is still a lot of fringe stuff. Intangible thoughts, whispers, and hints that lie just outside our grasp.

No first contact, no invasion (thankfully), no nothing. I guess it depends who you talk to. There are some pretty wacky theories about aliens living among us, but I don't think even I would go so far as to accept that.

It turns out, there could be a reason we haven't made contact yet.

Good old Yahoo threw this article across my news feed the other day. Apparently some scientists infinitely smarter than myself have postulated that aliens have yet to contact us because they are busy minding their own business.

At least something like that.

Basically, the idea is, as worlds grow more advanced they require more and more resources and energy. Things like interstellar travel takes a lot of those things. Once they get to a certain point, they realize it is no longer sustainable. Instead of focusing on expanding and exploring, they pull back a bit and turn their focus inward.

Optimizing what they have in their small corner of space becomes the priority and while they are certainly capable of reaching Earth, it isn't a priority for them.

It's an interesting theory to be sure. It makes a lot of sense when you consider what is happening on our planet. While we still have a long way to go, there are also some things that the world has mutually agreed to change their focus to ensure a future for the planet.

What do you think? Do aliens exist? Why haven't we met them yet? Or have we? I look forward to reading your comments! Remember though, this is about aliens, not religion. I only brought it up for some background. Rants about (any) religion will be ignored. Maybe even downvoted depending on my mood.

@bozz love your take on this!

If it did exist; I'm sure we would know by now. It's hard to keep secrets today with our social media existence - lol.

BUT, we would be super naïve to believe that other beings don't exist outside of Earth. More to that, is nowhere near hard to believe that if there is anything our powers that be don't want us to know; they have ways to suppress shit.

Yes, I don't deny that there are a lot of things that we likely don't know about. The existence of aliens being the least of them. I can certainly see how the recent release of information was just a misdirect for something else that was happening. In the end though, I just keep Livin L-I-V-I-N.

I am with you on the alien theory, I never bought into it, nor did it impact my life in any way. I had no reason to make them a part of my life. I grew up much like you and stayed pretty much that way.

The whispers and suggestions they make... while some are interesting, I have to wonder if it were true, why the big secret/coverup? I lived in New Mexico and Arizona and there is some strange stuff out there in the big, empty desert. There is also a lot of under-the-radar military movement/training/testing out there.

I connect the dots and the stories.

For me, it really isn't going to matter until it actually happens. It honestly doesn't impact my life one way or the other whether they do exist or not. It also doesn't really change what I believe. It's often fun to dive down that rabbit hole every now and then though.

Lol just the title made me smile already. Reading it I the X files tune was playing through my head and I am sure the truth and the life is out there.

I loved the X-File when I was younger. Never got around to watching the reboot though.

Watched it, and it was actually worth it.

I can associate with your comment that telescopes are harder to use than they seem. I got my daughter one when she was 14 or 15. It always took so long to find what we wanted to see that the telescope lost favor quickly. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, that was pretty much it. Mine had a special stand to help you find things, but it was so complex that you spent more time trying to figure it out than actually looking at things.

I think life is the rule, not the exception, in the cosmos. I think the real reason aliens haven’t openly contacted us yet is our civilization is just too primitive. We can’t even get along with each other let alone have the capacity to react appropriately to open contact from across the galaxy or a different dimension.

That's assuming other civilizations are even more enlightened than us. They could be out there just growing more slowly. Perhaps we are the advanced civilization, wouldn't that be scary! :)

There are probably civilizations in all stages of development. It’s fun to think about. Inter dimensional travel opens even more possibilities.

Oh yeah, so many more possibilities!

I read the Space Trilogy too ... and, as a Christian, it helped me form up the framework of my own science fiction writings ... but, unlike C.S. Lewis, I reached the same conclusion that you did, helped of course by Gene Roddenberry: if there are other civilizations out there, they are on their own journey that does not center US as humanity. They would have things to do beside even knowing we exist, and perhaps beside even looking for new life -- because, as it is on Earth, there is enough to do living planetside!

Very good points! To be fair though it was the scientists in the article I read that had that theory. I'm not smart enough to come up with that stuff on my own!

I don't really buy into the entire alien thing and sometimes I wonder if it's just something to distract us from finding out the real reasons.

I'm fascinated by the thought of extraterrestrial life. As you've mentioned, the universe is just so vast, that the opposite of that just seems so improbable.

The fact that it's actually just not worth it to use excess energy to establish contact with the earth, is a great, potentially valid point. Throw in the mix being attacked or chased by our military forces, meh. Why? Haha.

Great writeup!

Haha yeah, at this point isolation is probably the better option!

Given the scale of the universe, it is extremely probable that life exists elsewhere. That life may be very primative and be like bacteria or there may be other more advanced lifeforms. We have not been able to prove it yet or find evidence but we are looking in a small cave in Egypt in the context of the entire world if you follow my analogy.

Beyond that cave or what we can see, who knows what exists??

What happens to everything that is sucked into a blackhole? We cannot see Beyond the event horizon as light itself is pulled inside.

It's fascinating stuff. The macro of the cosmos behaves like the micro of particle physics which is also fascinating.

I don't buy that aliens have visted us though and doubt they will. It makes sense that they exist somewhere millions of light years away, but to fathom that they could ever reach here is a stretch too far. Sure wormholes try to explain how ot might happen but I don't really buy that.

I already shared this Carl Sagan video with a hive friend today, but I'll share it again as it really fits this conversation and I agree with wgat Carl says.

Our absolute priority should be minding the world we have on Mother Earth. Stop the petty squables and wars and unite to save our beautiful green covered Pale Blue Dot, an emotive speck of dust in the vast ocean of the cosmos.

Carl Sagan was a masterful writer of science fiction as well as an incredibly intelligent and thoughtful man, a deep thinker so to speak that spent much of his time in the rabbit hole. Thanks for sharing this video, I have never seen it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hello friend, what an interesting topic, I was very amused by the wikipedia thing, "The aliens are too busy with their own thing to come visit us" hahaha, who says it isn't? I tell you that I was also raised under a Catholic religion, today I am not in any, I only believe in God and in aliens hehehe, I remember that my father told us as children that he saw an unidentified flying object (UFO).
I agree that in such a large Universe we cannot be the only ones privileged, these issues are very controversial, but I think there are a number of people who have their experiences in this regard, and I sign up, I say it openly, if I think they exist!

I totally agree. It's just too big of a universe. I know some people who have had some experiences too. I am still very involved in my faith, but I know many religions are flawed.

Right! Some religions are very defective, my faith is what sustains me, it is part of my spirituality that is not related to religions, of course respecting the idiosyncrasies, Thanks for the contribution!

No worries. I have always been a firm believer that your personal relationship with God is far more important than a religion.

I always laughed at the thought of aliens. It annoys my son, he has always believed that there is life out there . . . somewhere. I used to tell him what if there isn't any intelligent, advanced life out there? What if the earth is the planet of origin and in the entire universe intelligent life begins here?

While the universe is billions of years old scientists tell us in cosmic terms it is very young in its evolution stages. I saw a mathematician once that proved numerically that life could not exist on other planets because the odds of intelligent life randomly forming from cosmic goo was the equivalent to a single person winning the Powerball lottery in the United States 100 times IN A ROW! I gamble sometimes so I understand odds and that is an astronomical (pardon the pun) figure right there.

Of course on the other hand they may all be fighting a galactic battle against some interstellar evil we don't even know about in which they are too concerned with their own survival to care about some other life form they never heard of in the vast regions of space.

Either way, I'm not expecting any little green men to land in my backyard anytime soon. 😎

I'm honestly not either, but if it does happen I am not going to be as shocked as the people who don't believe in them.
