If you are not from India chances are you don't know about how and at what rate we buy our Graphics Card. So let me shed some light on that aspect as lately the prices of GPUs in India have gone berserk. Yes, I know that a lot of things were being sold at a premium price during the start of Covid but now the supply is back up and running but the prices are still high. For example, a card that costs 30000 INR is being launched at 60000 INR in India that's double the original price and that hurts. Some will say that the prices are high because of all the Cryptocurrency Mining, but I am quite certain that Cryptocurrency Mining is not that common in India as of right now.

So what is the reason for Graphics Card being sold at such a huge Margin?

There are various reasons as to why the prices of GPUs are so high in India but the most important one to notice is the fact that there are various Distributors here in India that take advantage of the very high demand for Graphics Card here in India. For example, if a Retailer goes to a Distributor and asks for 2 Graphics Card worth 50000 INR each the Distributor will only sell him the GPUs he wants if he is willing to buy an extra of 70000 INR worth of other stuff like Air Coolers, Liquid Coolers, Cases, etc. Now the market for Liquid Coolers and Cases are not that huge here in India so in order for that Retailer to get that GPU, he sells the GPU at a premium cost to customers and thus we get an Artificial Increase in Price which is not created by the low Supply of GPUs but rather created by greedy Distributors.

If you are wondering why NVIDIA or AMD doesn't sell their GPUs directly, it's because of the system in hand that makes it favourable for them to get Distributors here in India rather than selling on their own. But I feel like this type of monopoly over a certain market should be stopped and Brands need to notice this and cut ties with such Distributors that are actively making profits at the expense of us Customers.
