My first time I was full of fear, excitement and above all a lot of curiosity. The best thing is that it was quite a challenge, but the universe conspired in my favor despite the odds, and in spite of everything, the goal was achieved, I intubated my patient.
I trained as an anesthesiologist and at the beginning it was a totally unknown territory, full of invasive procedures to the human body that for a newly graduated doctor cause a lot of fear and insecurity. So, arriving in this area, I was far from feeling comfortable.
But very soon that changed, the day of my first attempt came, it was a February 9, in one word I could describe that feeling as "sublime".
I had the company of my Chief of Service, who curiously gave me the order to do the procedure to a patient considered "difficult airway", encouraging me by saying "Ana, if you can not do it I will be here, calm.
)
I remember I had to do everything from the beginning, placing oxygen and once I was asleep I would ventilate the patient, which was similar to "breathing for her", but I was so focused on the process that I held my breath the whole time, until my boss noticed and said "Ana, if you don't breathe she won't either" and that's when I became aware of it haha.

I really did not spend so much time on that, it is a very short procedure, a few minutes, but for me it was marked for eternity. There were many first times in my training, not every day I could smile, but every day I learnt!

It's been a while, now it is me who accompanies others in their first attempts, it is an honor to be part of that moment!

Today is approaching my next "first time", my first shift as a specialist in the area, I remember with great nostalgia all the challenges that allowed me to get here, all the battles that I did not come out successful, but that left a deep teaching, I still think I am in training, because caring for people in the operating room is definitely a challenge of Titans, even so, I would choose it again a thousand times.

Pero muy pronto eso cambió, llegó el día de mi primer intento, fue un 9 de febrero, en una sola palabra podría describir esa sensación como "sublime".
Conté con la compañía de mi jefe de Servicio, quien curiosamente me dió la orden de hacer el procedimiento a una paciente considerada "vía aérea difícil", alentándome al decir "Ana, si no puedes hacerlo yo estaré aquí, tranquila".

Recuerdo que tuve que hacer todo desde el principio, colocando oxígeno y una vez dormida me todo ventilar al paciente, lo cual era similar a "respirar por ella", pero yo estaba tan concentrada en el proceso que contuve el aire todo el tiempo, hasta que mi jefe se dió cuenta y me dijo "Ana, si tú no respiras ella tampoco" y fue ahí cuando hice conciencia de aquello jaja

Realmente no pase tanto tiempo en eso, es un procedimiento muy corto, de algunos minutos, pero para mí quedó marcado para toda la eternidad. Fueron muchas las primeras veces en mi formación, no todos los días pude sonreír, pero todos los días aprendí!

Ya ha pasado tiempo, ahora soy yo quien acompaña a otros en sus primeros intentos, es un honor formar parte de ese momento!

Hoy en día se acerca mi siguiente "primera vez", mi primera guardia como especialista en el área, recuerdo con mucha nostalgia todos los retos que me permitieron llegar hasta aquí, todas las batallas de las que no salí airosa, pero que dejaron una profunda enseñanza, sigo pensando que estoy en formación, pues atender personas en quirófano en definitiva es un reto de Titanes, aún así, lo volvería a elegir mil veces más.
