Aproximadamente cuando yo tenía 9 años de edad, empecé a jugar ajedrez, primero solamente como una afición, y con el paso de los años de forma competitiva, representando con orgullo al Distrito Capital.

En el colegio donde yo estudiaba tuve la suerte de coincidir con otras de las chicas que al igual que yo, representaban al Distrito Capital en esta disciplina, lo cual fue muy curioso, porque existe un número mayor de chicos que de chicas que saben jugar ajedrez, y en mi colegio habíamos 4 chicas que no sólo sabíamos jugar, sino que competíamos.

Tuve la oportunidad de participar en diversas competencias nacionales infantiles y juveniles, torneos abiertos, entre otros, sin embargo, en todos noté que el número de chicas era menor, podría decirse que era un ambiente de “hombres” y algunas personas ajenas al ámbito competitivo se sorprendían al saber que jugaba ajedrez.

Sin embargo, esto no me hizo sentir incómoda, pues la verdad, yo disfrutaba mucho de las competencias, viajar y compartir con los amigos que vivían en otros estados. Fue una experiencia totalmente enriquecedora, y aunque ya tengo un par de años sin competir, el ajedrez nunca se olvida.

Desde pequeña me dijeron que el ajedrez estimula la capacidad de análisis y de resolución de problemas, ayuda a mantener la concentración, potencia la memoria, entre otras. Y ahora que estoy mayor, puedo confirmar que es verdad, y lo puedo notar desde mi ámbito personal y profesional.

However, this did not make me feel uncomfortable, because the truth was that I enjoyed the competitions a lot, traveling and sharing with friends who lived in other states. It was a very incredible experience, and although I have not competed for a couple of years now, chess is never forgotten.

Since childhood I was told that chess stimulates the ability to analyze and solve problems, helps to maintain concentration, enhances memory, among others. And now that I am older, I can confirm that it is true, and I can see it from my personal and professional sphere.

Cuando terminé el bachillerato, a los 17 años, comencé a estudiar Ingeniería en Telecomunicaciones en la Universidad, lamentablemente no pude continuar estudiando la carrera por motivos económicos, pero sin duda me dejó un gran aprendizaje, tanto a nivel personal como profesional.

Mi primer trabajo lo obtuve en el año 2016, aproximadamente después de 2 años de estudiar Ing. en Telecomunicaciones, y antes de comenzar a estudiar Lic. en Computación, me desempeñaba como asistente administrativo y fue una excelente oportunidad porque no contaba con experiencia laboral y aprendí muchas cosas.

Cierto día ocurrió algo que nunca olvidaré, contactaron al personal de soporte técnico por un inconveniente con los cables de red, los cuáles debían ser reemplazados. Recuerdo que tenía mucho interés en aprender cómo se hacían los cables de red, así que pregunté, pero no me quisieron enseñar y me dijeron que eso era muy difícil😔.

Mi segunda oportunidad laboral fue como agente de contenidos, allí aprendí también muchas cosas, pero la más importante fue que tenía un gran potencial, a pesar de que no contar con un título académico todavía, y que mi trabajo era valorado. Tenía excelentes compañeros, incluso de otras áreas de la empresa.

Un día la empresa comenzó a buscar un analista de sistemas, y a pesar de que enviaron la información por correo, no lo había leído cuando ya varias personas me estaban contactando para decirme que era ideal que me postulara, para ello debía contar con la autorización de mi jefa, pero, no tuve ni tiempo de decirle, porque ella apenas lo vio fue quien me dijo a mí ¡postúlate! y así fue, me postulé, y quedé, era la primera mujer en la empresa que formaba parte del equipo de sistemas, y a pesar de que no tenía experiencia en el área, y que no contaba con algunos de los conocimientos solicitados en el perfil del cargo, confiaron en mí y lo que no sabía me lo enseñaron, fue una gran oportunidad para crecer profesionalmente.

Después de esto llegué a una empresa donde entre las primeras cosas que me pidieron fue reemplazar unos cables de red😅, yo no tenía ni idea, pero me dispuse a aprender, me enviaron a comprar lo necesario: crimpadora, conectores, cable y tijeras. Después de varios intentos lo logré y realmente no era tan difícil como me habían dicho antes, era sólo cuestión de práctica.

Actualmente me desempeño en una empresa de software empresarial, brindando asistencia técnica, manejando base de datos, elaborando aplicaciones web, entre otras. Soy la única mujer del área de tecnología en la empresa y mi jefe cuándo me presenta suele decir algo como: “Ella es Ambar, la mejor programadora de Venezuela y trabaja con nosotros”, o “Ella es Ambar, la mejor estudiante de la Universidad tal”.

I remember that I was very interested in learning how network cables were made, so I asked, but they did not want to teach me and they said that it was very difficult.

My second job opportunity was as a content agent, I also learned a lot there, but the most important was that I had great potential, althought I didn't have an academic degree yet, and that my work was valued. I had excellent coworkers, even from other areas of the company.

One day the company started looking for a systems analyst, and despite the fact that it sent the information by mail, I don't had read, when several people already contacted me to tell me that I was ideal for this job, I needed authorization of my boss, but, I didn't even have time to tell her, because as soon as she saw it, she was the one who told me: apply! And so it was, I applied, and I stayed, I was the first woman in the company that was part of the systems team, I didn't had experience in the area, and I did not have some of the knowledge requested in the profile, but they trusted in me and they teach me all that I didn't know, it was a great opportunity to grow professionally.

After this I worked to a company where one of the firsts things they asked me was to replace the network cables😅, I had no idea, but I was disposed for learning, they sent me to buy what I needed: crimping tool, connectors, cable and scissors . After several attempts I made it and it really wasn't as difficult as people told me before.

Currently I work in a business software company, providing technical assistance, managing databases, developing web applications, among others. I am the only woman from the technology area in the company and when my boss introduces me he usually says something like: "She is Ambar, the best programmer in Venezuela and works with us", or "She is Ambar, the best student at that University".
