Good weekend to all of you,

Today in the morning I have been in the Asturian town of Navia (Asturias) taking a walk through its small marina, along the promenade and its beach. When I was returning to where I had parked my car, my attention was drawn to a pyramidal structure located at the gates of the secondary school Galileo Galilei of Navia.

The structure, as you can see in the pictures, is built with recycled soda and beer cans, which I really liked to see how you could make a second use to what many of us consider garbage. A detail that I also liked a lot is that the cans are grouped by color, according to the triangle they are forming, in a way that gives the structure a special and orderly color.

Unfortunately, the fences of the institute prevented me from entering inside the enclosure and being able to take closer pictures and to read in detail the informative poster about the structure that had caught my attention. According to the information on the poster, the structure formed is the Sierpinski tetrahedron.

According to the information on the poster and the information consulted on the internet, this type of structure is formed by the repetition of the same object in an iterative way (mathematical term called fractal).

Sierpinski Tetrahedron constrution

According to what a man explained to me while he saw me taking the pictures, the students of the school participated in the construction of this tetrahedron by collecting cans in the nearby bars and cafeterias and also in the construction of the structure itself. A very practical and fun way to explain geometry to the youngest.

I hope you like.

A cordial greeting.
