Retired After Winning Gold Medal
Maybe the photo above seems ordinary, but it would be interesting to know the story behind it. This is an important moment when Aceh's athlete, Fuad Ramadhan, fell at the finish line when he was almost chased by another runner in the 400m athletics event at the 2021 National Olympic event.
Fuad is an athlete that Aceh relies on in the biggest four-year championship in Indonesia. In 2016, Fuad also won a gold medal and in 2021 he successfully defended his title.
However, his struggle was very tough this year because he was almost overtaken by his opponent when he almost reached the finish. His legs were no longer strong enough to run, so he threw himself right at the finish line and won gold that way. His opponent was already very close to him by then.
Both knees were injured and he also fainted on the track until he finally received medical attention. I met him after the competition, he said he did this trick on purpose and it is often done by world athletes.
This Aceh athlete recorded a time of 47.62 seconds in the 400 meter number and finished as 1st place. Followed by East Java athletes, Dewa Radika Sya (47.71 seconds) who won the silver medal, and Hadi Nur Ikhsan in third place from Central Java with a record time of 48.05 seconds and won bronze medal.
