Monomad: Spiny Spider

Today I decided to submit some macro photos to the daily #monomad challenge hosted by @monochromes.

This is not a crab, but a spiny spider (Gasteracantha sp. ). Yes, it's a bizarre spider because it has a shield with sharp spikes. With the exception of its massive dark jaws, the spider's eyes are barely visible. Spiny spiders, such as orb-weaver spiders, spin webs among grasses. Poor insects frequently unknowingly hit the cobweb, causing them to become trapped there, so that the "landlord" doesn't have to bother getting out of its territory to hunt.
