Monomad: Furrow Spider

Today I'm submitting to the #monomad challenge some macro shots with the subject of a furrow spider (Larinioides cornutus). Having a fat belly that is more dominant than the rest of the body, I can confirm that this is a female.

Unlike the jumping spider or the orb-weaving spiders, the furrow spider tends to be calm and sedentary. If you set firecrackers nearby, she doesn't care about that, and just stays quiet in her place.

But that doesn't mean she will remain calm if an insect tries to approach her because she will definitely kill it. Yeah, she has strong jaws that are deadly enough for self-defense.

Thanks @ewkaw. When I found this spider, I immediately remembered the challenge of @monochromes asking for the sex of a jumping spider some time ago on the #monomad. And then, I'm really trying to figure out what the sex of this spider is before posting here. Hahaha! 😁

Wow; there is no wasted space on this spider. She looks taut and ready to fight!

Amazing to see these creatures up close and with such clarity. Great pictures; the lighting and focus were spot on...

Best wishes for a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!

Cheers!
