Looking differently at the weeds on our verge

It's easy to write off a piece of road verge as weed infested and up to the council to look after.

Me, though, I see it as valuable realestate and a potential farmable area. The weeds on it can tell us so much about the soil conditions that they are no longer weeds, but bioindicators and soil testing kits.

Have a watch and see what I mean.

It was recorded in 9:16 so there's nothing wrong with your screen :-)

I too got lots of weeds growing on my vegetable garden, in a matter of weeks I will be weeding out my garden once again, and then I will also use those weeds are mulch.

"When you see damaged ground and when you see weedy ground, and when you see all that kind of stuff, think of it a different way"

I love this thinking of yours, it gives me a lot of insights about the ecosystem of plants and trees, from now on I am not going to treat all the weeds as bad but a very nice source of nutrients for my vegetables".

Thanks. Ultimately, all plants can be thought of as mulch 😁 but are much better utilised while they are alive.

Hivebits blends Hive's blockchain and Bitcoin's ethos. Your effort = your reward. Mine HBIT simply with ! hivebits (no space) or ! HBIT (no space), 1-per-day. Success! You mined .9 HBIT and the user you replied to received .1 HBIT on your behalf. You can receive 100% of the HBIT by replying to one of your own posts or comments. Or, support Hivebits at the official HBIT mine | your wallet | market | tools | connect | <><

Confirmation replies are currently on, but they'll go off when Resource Credits (RCs) get low. Your hivebits command will still go through and you'll get your HBIT.

They say nature always tries to achieve homeostasis and I adore how weeds work to bring balance to the soil. Do you use the mallow medicinally? A fascinating video and really worth watching - @minismallholding be great to point people to this one in this week's newsletter! Great to see your face too. I don't often watch videos here but I enjoyed this one.

Thank you @riverflows! Yes, we use Mallow medicinally and as a food. Young leaves and seed pods are tasty and nutritious. Mallow is an anti-inflammatory and produces mucus which soothes further.

Make a cold infusion. Let the leaves/flowers/fruit steep in cold water for an hour or so. Its better cold than hot.

Perfect. I have a sore throat so I'm think sage, marshmellow, licorice infusion!

Great choice, though I'd go Thyme for sore throat rather than Sage, though that would work OK too. Licorice goes with anything and helps the adrenals produce cortisone which is an anti-inflammatory.
