PS5 is on sale tomorrow in some regions of the world. However, although there are great expectations for the generational leap, the reality is that PS4 will continue to be the PlayStation console with the most activity for a long time, something that the Japanese brand itself recognizes.

In this sense, today we have had a few words from the executive Hideaki Nishino (via IGN) that, in essence, answer the following question: when will the transition from PS4 to PS5 be completed?:

"The current assumption is that the transition from PS4 to PS5 will take about three years," Nishino added. "We have more than 100 million PS4 customers, but we will do our best to move to PS5 as soon as possible."

Logically, these words from Nishino-san make it clear that selling PS5 is a priority today on PlayStation, but we do not have to assume that the Japanese brand will force the situation.

In this regard, Mr. Nishino has also assured that they are aware that it is important to maintain compatibility between consoles, which is why we will continue to see intergenerational content for several years to come. The truth is that this is not the first time that PlayStation has talked about how long PS4 has left to live, and it is that on previous occasions, marks have already been set, such as the year 2022.

In such a way, it seems obvious that 2021 will be a year that, in its entirety, will continue to see new content constantly for PS4. Thus, it seems that it will be from 2022 when we will begin to see a perhaps more constant change in the deployment of PlayStation content, with 2023 being a priori a year in which it will be sought that PS5 is already the definitive reference of the company.
