PS5 is a console that many have been waiting for months, as it will finally allow us to leave behind a generation that at the hardware level has been out of date with respect to current technology. However, everyone is concerned about whether they can make the leap without losing compatibility with PS4 games. Although PlayStation has already resolved many of the doubts present to date, today I have answers to the most frequently asked questions about it.

So, without further ado I leave you a list of confirmations by Sony that should help clarify many of the scenarios that still confuse some players:

99% of the PS4 library is backward compatible with PS5. The only games confirmed to be non-backward compatible are the following:

  • DWVR
  • Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
  • TT Isle of Man - Ride on the Edge 2
  • Just Deal With It!
  • Shadow Complex Remastered
  • Robinson: The Journey
  • We Sing
  • Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
  • Shadwen
  • Joe's Diner

As you may have seen, the truth is that the fact that these are only 10 video games that will not be able to work on a PS5 means that the backward compatibility characteristics of the console have met the initial standards that Sony proposed in its day.

But you also have to know that:

  • On PS5 Digital, you can play all the digital PS4 games that you have purchased or plan to purchase through the PlayStation Store or the PlayStation mobile app. You will not be able to play your physical PS4 games.
  • On standard PS5 - with reader - you can play your PS4 digital game library as well as your physical game collection.
  • When you log in to PS5 with your PSN account, we will see all the PS4 games available on that account. It is necessary to always keep PS5 updated to the latest software version as well as update all games when required.
  • On PS5 we will see improved loading times for PS4 games, in addition to that thanks to the 'Game Boost' mode we will also have better and more stable framerates. Some games without framerate limitation and dynamic 4K will look even better. PS4 games will also benefit from the PS5 interface, something that will be explained in detail on another occasion.
  • VR games on PS4 will also be backward compatible on PS5. It will be necessary to have PS VR, Dualshock 4 and / or PS Move, in addition to the PS4 PS Camera.
  • The games that we have obtained through PS Plus and PS Now will also be backward compatible.
  • It is possible to stream PS4 games on PS5 through the Remote Play function (although they will not be able to use Game Boost).
  • To transfer saves or digital games from PS4 to PS5 you can use Wi-Fi, LAN cable or connect an HDD in which you have installed PS4 games. The PS Plus cloud can also be used to transfer saves. Some saves may not transfer from PS4 to PS5, although this is up to the developers.
  • PS4 games not compatible with PS5 will appear on the PS Store under the 'PS4 Only' banner.

So I hope I have resolved some doubts you had in mind, and I will keep you informed if any more news comes out.

The only thing I know is that I don't have one nor will I have the other.

Thanks for the info, but the confirmed 10 PS4 games incompatible with PS5 are not the only ones... They are the confirmed ones and the list might be added to in the future.

But since there are only 10 of them and not one of them is a big game I'm not very worried.
