Criticizing OfferUp Gaming PC Listings - Part 3

(Edited)

Today I decided to go back on OfferUp to look at some more gaming PCs that people have for sale and criticize them. So far, I haven't seen any that I've been blown away by as far as finding a great deal, but it seems like they're getting better as we go along. Let's check out some more gaming PC listings on OfferUp and I'll go over what I like and don't like about them and see if we can find some great deals on used gaming PCs.

Let's get into it!

First up, we have a custom gaming PC that the seller is asking $1,050 for. That's a bit on the steeper side compared to what I've been looking at lately, but maybe it's a good deal. First up, the build itself looks really clean and it's not dirty which is a good sign. The case itself seems like an unbranded budget case and there's nothing wrong with that. It's got an i5 6600k cpu which is one of the better i5s out there. It's not incredible, but it's pretty impressive for an i5. They tend to go for around $150 used on eBay. The motherboard is a nice motherboard that you can find for around $80 used on eBay. It's got 16GB of DDR4 RAM as well. They don't say what speed it is, but you can find 16GB of DDR4 RAM for around $75 new. It's also got an Nvidia GTX 1070 which is a killer GPU for 1080p gaming or a pretty good 2K gaming card. The prices on these vary a lot, but they cost around $230 used on eBay. Lastly, it's got a 2TB HDD and a 256GB SSD. The HDD is worth around $40 used and the SSD can be picked up for around $40 new.

We don't know exactly how much the case, PSU, CPU cooler, and other things like that cost so I'm just going to have to guess on them.

With everything that I've seen here and what I can guess the other misc things cost in this build, I'd put a value on this particular gaming PC at around:

$800!

This is actually a really good PC for the price if you're not tech savvy and just want to buy a good gaming PC. You can build one yourself and probably save a couple hundred dollars for sure though. I'd haggle here for $900 and if someone could get it for that low (or lower) on price then I'd say it's a good deal. This one gets a thumbs up from me.

Finally someone who isn't asking an unrealistic price for a good used gaming PC!

Let's check out another one!

Here we have another gaming PC and this one the seller is asking $700 for. The first thing I actually noticed about this listing is that the seller seems to run an auto dealership. It's completely unrelated, but it made me laugh a bit.

This PC comes with an i5-6600K just like our last build we looked at so we know that's worth $150. It's got a GTX 1050TI 4GB which is a pretty decent 1080p GPU, but it's nothing incredible. It'll work though. They go for around $110 used on eBay. 16GB DDR4 RAM is good and just like the last build, it costs about $75. 1TB of storage is fine and goes for around $40 used on eBay. The motherboard listed here you can get used on eBay for around $90. It's also got a 750W PSU which is a bit overkill, but they go for around $120 new on Amazon. Lastly, it's got what looks like an AIO (All-in-one) water cooler which goes for around $70 for a new one on NewEgg.

I feel like the CPU is quite a bit overkill for the GPU in this thing, but people tend to upgrade their GPUs more often then their CPUs so I can forgive them a bit for that. We don't know what kind of case this is, but since it supports an AIO water cooler, I'll guess it's around a $75 case.

Total cost to build a system like this yourself would be:

$730!

I've looked at a lot of PCs so far and this one has the best value of any custom gaming PC that I've seen so far. They're asking $700 for this, but to build one from used parts would end up costing you more than to just buy this one.

Out of every listing I've seen so far, this one I HIGHLY recommend getting! If you can haggle a little then this thing could be a steal.

Overall, I'm really surprised that I'm finally coming across better PC listings as for the past few days I really haven't been that impressed. This just goes to show that if you look around enough you can actually find gaming PCs that people built that aren't complete rip-offs. My faith in the PC gaming community has been restored... for now.
