Nokia 300G Mobile Phone Review - What A Piece Of Garbage!

About 6 months ago I bought the Nokia 300G. I wasn't really looking for a new phone but the price was right at just under $200. My Samsung S20 had a cracked screen and was starting to act funny. It seemed like a good opportunity to try out this Nokia product. On top of that, I generally just look at the Camera and storage space when buying a new phone and this phone had a great camera and sufficient storage for my needs. I took a chance and ordered the phone.

When the phone arrived, the first thing I did was take a picture with the camera. Just like the reviews said, the camera is AWESOME! Loved the pictures and video quality! For a phone under $200 The Dood was really impressed. I thought I had found the phone of my dreams at an incredibly reasonable price. My new found joy would soon be short lived though.

The first thing that went was the USB-C port. After doing a little research, Nokia claims this is a "rare" problem with this model phone. Doing a Google search I discovered it's a much more common problem than they'd like to admit. The USB-C port gets pushed back into the phone and the charging cable has a very hard time staying attached. This can be fixed with some electrical tape and ghetto engineering but honestly it shouldn't be an issue on a 4 month old phone. I need the charging port to charge the phone while I travel. This was a deal breaker for me. I told myself I'd make do and charge the phone at night with the solar charger instead of on the motorcycle where the cable keeps popping out when I travel :( Not cool at all.

OK, so the USB-C port is terrible. Not the end of the world, everything else is working above and beyond my expectations. Suddenly the phone starts acting really buggy. It's sluggish like it's corrupted by malware. I rarely use the web browser. I don't use it for email. I strictly use the phone, camera, and a couple apps. For apps mainly 2FA, Twitter, Google maps, and a GPS app. Last night I grab the phone to check on Twitter while watching TV and the phone is completely unresponsive. I stop what I'm doing, mess around with the phone for about 20 minutes and finally get to a screen I can use. Suddenly I get all kinds of errors. I have no idea what happened but I was barely able to reboot. On the reboot, you can just tell the phone is not right. Something is very wrong. Luckily I have all the important stuff on backup.

Keep in mind, this isn't even a 6 month old phone. I've never had so many issues with a phone that was this new. On top of that, I'm tired of buying new phones and I've really babied this one A LOT. It hasn't been dropped and I'm incredibly careful in handling it. IMHO this phone is a complete piece of garbage!

I've got the important stuff all backed up already. I'll probably try a hard factory reset and see if I can get a few more months out of this piece of garbage. Seriously though, this was not a good phone. I normally wouldn't buy a $200 phone but after reading the camera reviews, I thought I'd give it a try. Never again. On top of that, I'm probably sticking with Samsung products from here on out. My Samsung phones have never let me down and the camera's are the best for Android devices. I'm not a brand whore when it comes to phones. What does it do and how well does it do it? Regardless of the shenanigans Samsung pulls with user data, I've never had an issue with any of my Samsung products. On top of that, I use my phone for crypto trading. For security reasons, if I can't fix it myself, it goes in cold storage in the attic with the rest of my spent tech. I can't take the phone to a repair guy or trade it in for a new model. Never again with the cheap phone!

That's it, that's the review. The Nokia 300G is a real piece of crap and in my humble opinion should be avoided at any cost. I wouldn't take this phone for free! Sad too, because I've always liked Nokia products. I own Nokia stock. I expected much more from a company like Nokia. I mean these folks are basically the God Father's of mobile phones. Honestly, maybe I got a lemon, but the internet is filling up with complaints on this model. I don't think this phone is a good design at all. Hopefully the hard factory reset fixes this thing so I can get a few more months out of it. Changing phones is a real pain in the arse and I really don't want to do it this soon. Regardless though, I may not have a choice!

I didn't know Nokia still made things. They should have given up the phone game when they lost market share to Apple lol

Nokia is really big in 5G. They're still a fairly relevant company. Still, worst phone ever and that's not an exaggeration. 🤣

I had a Nokia a couple of years back and had exactly the same problem with the charging cable and the thing locking and doing strange things.

Sad because it was a really nice looking sleek and we'll put together phone on the outside.

I didn't buy another!

I thought the same thing. Probably the last Nokia I ever buy.

I'm probably rare in never having owned a Nokia phone. They used to rule that market, but they never really captured the smartphone market. I did like the look of some of their early attempts, but then Android took over. It's a shame they have lost their way.
