ESP | ENG Trastornos cutáneos: xerodermia pigmentosa. - Skin disorders: xeroderma pigmentosa.

Existen ciertos trastornos cutáneos que no suelen ser tan frecuentes en la población como lo es la xerodermia pigmentosa sin embargo resulta una enfermedad muy agresiva para el individuo y que afecta la calidad de vida y se requiere de amplios cuidados para así reducir algunas complicaciones.

La xerodermia pigmentosa es una enfermedad genética que suele comenzar en la infancia a partir de la edad de 3 años a través de manifestaciones visibles pero menos agresivas que con el tiempo puede aumentar la gravedad de las lesiones. Es importante mencionar que en la actualidad no existe cura pero se pueden tratar los síntomas.

Está afección produce lesiones de la capa superficial de la piel es decir en la epidermis a través de la exposición solar así como también por la luz artificial provoca manifestaciones cutáneas generalizadas como por ejemplo maculas, hiperpigmentación en la piel, ampollas, las lesiones pueden aparecer en ojos, labios y mucosa, la mayoría de estas lesiones cutáneas pueden ser cancerosas.

Las principales complicaciones son a nivel ocular el cual puede generar la perdida de la vista, parte de los labios, orejas incluso nariz en estos casos el paciente presenta un alto riesgo de desarrollar cáncer de piel así mismo en otros órganos como pulmón, riñón, a nivel del sistema nervioso central por otra parte puede producirse el deterioro cognitivo de forma progresiva.

El cuidado principal para el paciente es evitar la exposición a la luz solar y algunos tipos de luz artificial, se debe mantener la piel y ojos cubiertos a través del uso de lentes, el tratamiento se basa en reducir los síntomas, la aplicación de cremas indicadas por el médico es importante, tanto el paciente como cuidador debe adaptarse al estilo de vida para mantener la estabilidad.

There are certain skin disorders that are not usually as frequent in the population as xeroderma pigmentosa, however it is a very aggressive disease for the individual and it affects the quality of life and extensive care is required in order to reduce some complications.

Xeroderma pigmentosa is a genetic disease that usually begins in childhood from the age of 3 years through visible but less aggressive manifestations that over time can increase the severity of the lesions. It is important to mention that there is currently no cure but the symptoms can be treated.

This condition produces lesions in the superficial layer of the skin, that is, in the epidermis through sun exposure as well as artificial light, causing generalized skin manifestations such as macules, hyperpigmentation on the skin, blisters, the lesions can appear on eyes, lips and mucosa, most of these skin lesions can be cancerous.

The main complications are at the eye level, which can cause loss of sight, part of the lips, ears, and even the nose. In these cases, the patient is at high risk of developing skin cancer, as well as in other organs such as the lungs, kidneys, level of the central nervous system on the other hand, cognitive deterioration can occur progressively.

The main care for the patient is to avoid exposure to sunlight and some types of artificial light, the skin and eyes must be covered through the use of lenses, the treatment is based on reducing the symptoms, the application of indicated creams by the doctor is important, both the patient and caregiver must adapt to the lifestyle to maintain stability.
