Hello friends of Hive, welcome once again to my blog. Today I would like to continue telling you about an experience that started a few days ago and when I shared it with everyone I promised I would come back to tell you more.

A few weeks ago we started with our laboratory practices at the university, the chemistry and biology subjects have in their curriculum these practices to apply the knowledge acquired throughout the semester, they are also essential to test in practice everything that narrates the theory.

On this occasion we had laboratory practice with chemistry. Our teacher organized the activity so that we could perform ourselves those experiments related to chemical reactions which was the topic chosen to study, this topic was selected for its importance and application in everyday life and for the ease of doing experiments related to this topic.

The teacher asked all the students to collect some materials. With my classmates we organized ourselves and brought everything we needed for the day of practice. We were all very excited because thanks to the first practices we already knew what it feels like to live science and all its wonders up close.

-Vaso precipitado.
-Balón aforado.
-Agitador.
-Cilindro graduado.
-Cuchillo.
-Hoja de bisturí
-20 grs de bicarbonato.
-1 limón (zumo).
-100 ml de aceite.
-1 huevo.
-200 ml de vinagre.
-Agua.
-Desinfectante.
-Alka seltzer.

We had to carry out 4 simple experiments for which we would use the following materials:

-Precipitated beaker.
-Volumetric beaker.
-Agitator.
-Graduated cylinder.
-Knife.
-Scalpel blade.
-20 grams of bicarbonate.
-1 lemon (juice).
-100 ml of oil.
-1 egg.
-200 ml of vinegar.
-Water.
-Disinfectant.
-Alka seltzer.

First experiment: Bubble volcano.

For the first test the first thing that was done was to squeeze a lemon and take out its juice in a mortar, then the juice was poured in a beaker which was approximately 65 ml and then 20 grams of bicarbonate were added.

Immediately an effervescence reaction is observed which occurs because the bicarbonate gives off carbon dioxide when it comes in contact with the citric acid present in the lemon juice, the gas is released in this reaction and it is only possible to see it through the bubbles which are the gas being released.

The effervescence reaction lasted about 1 minute when all the gas (carbon dioxide) was completely released.

Segundo experimento: Malos amigos.

Second experiment: Bad friends.

During this test the materials used were 150 ml of water and 4.5 ml of oil were added. When joining these two substances it can be observed that it results in a heterogeneous mixture since they never come together because a film of oil was formed on top of the water.

This happens for some reasons, first both substances have different densities, on the other hand the oil is formed by fatty acids and other substances, as we know the fatty acids are hydrophobic, that is to say, they do not mix with water, that is why they never get to join.

In the second part of this experiment red and blue disinfectant was used, some drops of red were added and it was possible to observe how when passing through the oil and then to the water the disinfectant drop had a reddish tone inside the water.

Tercer experimento: Agua gasificada.

Third experiment: Aerated water.

In the third experiment the materials we used were 150 ml of water in a beaker, in that substance was dissolved a tablet of Alka Seltzer.

As we know alka seltzer is an antacid that has sodium bicarbonate and citric acid, all these components react with those of water and form carbon dioxide in the form of gas that is released through bubbles that form the effervescent reaction.

It should be noted that this reaction lasted a little longer than the first experiment and this is due to the fact that the components are much more concentrated in this reaction.

Fourth experiment: Rubber egg.

In the last experiment a much more unusual test was performed. A chicken egg was used and this was immersed in 200 ml of vinegar in a beaker. Instantly there was another effervescence reaction occurring in the egg shell.

The acetic acid that is present in the vinegar gradually dissolves the eggshell and at the same time releases energy, which is the bubbles. As the eggshell dissolves, the acetic acid comes into contact with the inside of the egg, the white, and this is how it denatures and takes on a rubbery texture. If the egg is left for a long time, the acid will react enough to harden the whole inside of the egg.

And those were the four experiments that we carried out. They were simple tests but they showed us the nature of many chemical reactions that we sometimes do not see. This experience was just as exciting as the previous ones and I hope my #Hive friends liked it as much as I did.

See you soon!
