Welcome

Hello dear historians, I hope you are very well, because today I want to tell you about a figure who has given much to talk about in the twentieth century for his achievements, let's start:

Winston Churchill

Winston Churchill Source

The full name of this figure is Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill but famously known as Winston Churchill, was born on November 30 in Oxfordshire, England.

Churchill was a person who throughout his career both political and military had reaped many successes as well as failures, besides he was a painter, writer and historian.

His ancestry is English and American. This character who is remembered for his role in the Second World War mainly, also had several feats that I will tell you below:

Military experience

Source

After his graduation from the initial training center for officers of the British army, he joined the army in 1895 and participated in several colonial wars of Great Britain as in the Anglo-Sudanese war (1881-1899) and the second Boer War (war between Britain and the Republic of South Africa along with the Liberal State of Orange) where he was a war correspondent and was in the so-called British India.

With his passion as a writer, historian and military, he had several adventures as a war chronicler which took him to several countries such as Cuba, India, Sudan, Mozambique and South Africa, in the latter he was the victim of an ambush in which he was captured and taken to a prison camp in Petroria, where he was able to escape.

Political experience

In his political career he suffered several failures, one of them would be when he supervised the Gallipoli campaign (First World War), which was a total failure and he was demoted from first Lord of the Admiralty to Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.

In 1915, in the middle of the First World War, he had resigned his political post and joined the Royal Scots Fusiliers for half a year, in 1917 he returned to politics with the role of Minister of Munitions.

Artistic life

Winston's artistic life is the least seen, but not the least important because thanks to his war chronicles in 1953 a Swedish academy would give him the Nobel Prize for literature, apart from this he was a hobby painter who painted landscapes and still lifes.

Churchill in the Second World War

Source

Winston Churchill during the Second World War played the role of Prime Minister, a role he played quite well in defeating the fascists of Nazi Germany.

During World War II Churchill was in charge of preventing Spain from joining the war on behalf of the Axis , as it would be a danger to them to be blocked by the Strait of Gibraltar , as it was essential to bring supplies to Africa.

Prime Minister Winston Churchill after the introduction of the United States and the Soviet Union to the war by the Allies met with Joseph Stalin and Franklin Roosevelt, where they took the iconic image that I will show below:

Curiosities

Winston Churchill was a heavy drinker and a smoker to say the least.

He was a male chauvinist, but this perspective would change after World War I, as he saw how well women were able to replace men in the factories.

A friend of Winston's once said "When Churchill is right he is unique , but when he is wrong Oh my God!"

Famous phrases

Source

"Politics is almost as exciting as war and almost as dangerous. In war you can only be killed once, but in politics many times."

"Success consists in going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm."

"In war, resolution. In defeat, defiance. In victory, magnanimity. In peace, goodwill."

"If we open a dispute between past and present, we will find that we have lost the future."

"Meeting Franklin Roosevelt was like opening your first bottle of champagne."
