Excellent and resourceful post! Thank you so much for sharing it on Hive.

From my observations of the cousin species, Argiope lobata, the predation behaviours are exact to what you've described. I think it's universal among the Argiope genus, possibly among the subfamily, too. And, minus a few fine details in the behaviour, it's broadly the behaviour across all orb-web spiders in the family.

I didn't know about the stimulus triggers, however. That is fascinating and, in hind sight, makes a lot of sense. I wonder if these are true for many web-dwellers. From watching button spiders, I've noticed a similar reaction to certain prey movements on the web and once caught and wrapped. To a further similar degree, it's the same with the funnel nursery-web spiders, Euprosthenops.

Again, thanks for sharing insight into some of the workings of spiders!

Hi, it is likely that predation behaviors are as you say, very similar within the genus. One spider that has always caught my attention are the species of the genus Verrucosa, because they face upwards in the web. I once wrote about them. Thanks for your complementary information.

Oh, beautiful spider. And yeah, the top-facing is pretty unique. I've not heard or seen that happen before. I've seen feather-legged spiders (Ulorobid) face left and right, though never upwards. Spiders never cease to amaze me.
