El día de ayer mientras estaba en mi ronda de trabajo académico me llegó un mensaje a mi celular del número 74224 donde se me informaba la selección para ser vacunada. Debo decir que ¡Nunca esperé ese mensaje! De hecho, mi filosofía rondaba hacia no vacunarme, miedo, desconfianza podrían ser una de las variables que más me rondaban.

Yesterday while I was on my academic work round I received a message on my mobile phone from 74224 informing me that I had been selected to be vaccinated. I must say that I never expected that message! In fact, my philosophy was not to get vaccinated, fear, mistrust could be one of the variables that were on my mind.

Sé que muchos dirán ¿Tú no eres científica acaso? Antes de ello, también soy humana y mantengo que la celeridad de los estudios pudiera ser riesgosas para ese bajo porcentaje que puede reaccionar negativamente. Ese mensaje me hizo llorar, me hizo abordar a mis seres más especiales para pedir su opinión y me dormí con la bandera de que la almohada sería buena consejera.

I know that many will say: "Aren't you a scientist? Before that, I am also human and I maintain that the speed of the studies could be risky for that small percentage that could react negatively. That message made me cry, made me turn to my special ones for their opinion and I went to sleep with the flag that the pillow would be a good advisor.

La ciencia mantiene la premisa de la objetividad y veracidad, eso lo sabemos, pero no es lo mismo vacunarse para el sarampión, con una vacuna ya probada por años, que hacerlo con una tan reciente, entendiendo que cada individuo es único y puede reaccionar de una forma distinta a lo esperado. El miedo se acentúa cuando el gobierno nacional se plantea vacunar con la versión cubana de Biocufarma.

Decidí ir, eran pocas las personas jóvenes que fueron elegidas, eso me hacía pensar en Charles Darwin y la selección natural. Sin embargo, estos no se quitaban su tapabocas y hasta comían retirados del resto. Fue un día bonito, escuchar sus anécdotas fue llenarse de sabiduría y sonrisas.

The biosecurity rules were not taken care of by the responsible body in the surroundings where the training took place, which the elderly themselves organised with a list. However, they did not take off their masks and even ate their meals away from the rest. It was a beautiful day, listening to their anecdotes was full of wisdom and smiles.

Llegó el momento, no pude tomar la fotografía. La vacuna era Verocell de Sinopharm, la sexta en recibir aprobación por la Organización mundial de la salud el 7 de marzo del 2021. Esta según sus investigaciones, es autorizada por garantizar seguridad, calidad y eficacia, tal como lo planteó el Director General de la OMS.

When the time came, I could not take the picture. The vaccine was Sinopharm's Verocell, the sixth to be approved by the World Health Organisation on 7 March 2021. According to their research, it is approved for safety, quality and efficacy, as stated by the WHO Director General.

Sinopharm es procedente del Beijing Bio-Institute of Biological Products (China National Biotec Group) . Al parecer existen problemas al llamarla Vero Cell, pues en efecto no es su nombre. Al hablar de células vero, nos referimos a un tipo de cultivo celular que permitió la multiplicación del virus. Este se corresponde con células epitelial renal de un mono verde africano.

Sinopharm comes from the Beijing Bio-Institute of Biological Products (China National Biotec Group). There seem to be problems with calling it a Vero Cell, as this is not in fact its name. When we talk about vero cells, we are referring to a type of cell culture that allowed the virus to multiply. This corresponds to kidney epithelial cells from an African green monkey.

Al inactivar el virus, se le impide la replicación lo que elimina la posibilidad de contagio. Sinopharm genera reacciones en el sistema inmunitario, quien se encargará de crear los anticuerpos. Su aplicación es efectiva en dos dosis con 21 días de separación y con una adecuada refrigeración que está entre los -8 y -2 ºC.

By inactivating the virus, it is prevented from replicating, thus eliminating the possibility of infection. Sinopharm generates reactions in the immune system, which then creates antibodies. Its application is effective in two doses 21 days apart and with adequate refrigeration, which is between -8 and -2 ºC.

Al momento de escribir esta publicación mantenía un fuerte malestar general con náuseas y cefalea, además del dolor en el brazo donde fue aplicada ¡Espero que todo salga bien!
