Hello hivers of the #hivediy community.

Once again I am with you to share a tutorial that will surely be very useful.

With the advent of new technologies and satellite TV, everyone at home has a TV and a decoder to watch our favorite programs in the comfort of our living room, bedroom, or kitchen.

But what makes us feel more comfortable when watching TV, is the remote control, because with it we can select our favorite programs and raise or lower the volume without having to move from where we are comfortably.

But what happens when this harmony that exists between the control and the TV is interrupted by the lack of battery?

We get uncomfortable and start to mistreat the poor control, we hit it, we take out and put in the batteries, we change their position and it works again for a few moments and so on until we go back to buy more alkaline batteries.

The alkaline batteries can last us a couple of months if they are of good quality.

In this tutorial I will show you a solution that could be the definitive solution to this problem.

It is to Adapt a Lithium Battery type Coín, of those that use the computers.

These types of batteries are rechargeable, take up little space and can last for years before they wear out completely. A charged lithium battery can last about 3 months without being recharged and even longer if it is used for a remote control.

Because of these advantages, I consider it to be the right choice.

Now we start with the Tutorial.

Tutorial: Replacing AA Alkaline Batteries with Lithium 2032 Coín Batteries

The remote control circuit is powered by 2 AA or AAA batteries depending on the model of your remote control, the battery size may vary, but what is a constant is that it works with 3 VDC.

Each alkaline battery has a voltage of 1.5 VDC, which when placed in series, add up to 3v DC.

In the image we can see a small scheme of how the batteries are positioned in the control.

Notice that at the top there is a junction between the + and - pole of the batteries, this is where the voltages are added.

Knowing that we only need 3vdc to feed our control, we proceed to look for the necessary to make our adaptation.

If you have old computer boards, we can remove the connector and the Coin type battery from that board with the help of the soldering iron.

On the back of the board we will find the two pins that hold the battery connector, unsolder and remove.

Note that the battery is silkscreened with the word Lithium and the voltage it stores. 3v DC.

We already have what we need, now we must identify the polarity of the battery, in the serigraphy also the positive symbol is seen, + that is to say that in the superior part of the Coín, the positive pole is found.

image.png

Now we identify the same polarity in the connector to solder two wires and identify them as positive or negative.

I did not have red wire to identify the positive pole, so I used yellow, now for the negative pole I use black, which is the most common color to identify the negative pole.

I soldered the wires according to the diagram and then presented it inside the control, where the alkaline batteries were going.

Inside the control you can see the polarity of the batteries, so we soldered the wires in the corresponding polarity.

Then we fix the new connection with hot silicone so that it does not move and remains strong.

Once this was done, we put the battery in place and rectified the voltage, this battery gave 2.91 VDC.

This means that it will need to be charged soon.

IMG_20220409_223359.jpg

I am aware that this battery was on an unused plate and has lost voltage, but it still works.

However this will lead me to create a charger for this type of battery. I promise to bring you that tutorial.
