Worms Eating Iron Rust Turn Magnetic!

in MES Science3 months ago

This is a pretty epic finding by the folks at the SmarterEveryDay YouTube channel. A metal-working shop typically has lots of steel shavings and rust that make its way onto the ground. This iron-rich waste contaminates the food supply for worms which can turn the worms that eat enough of it turn magnetic! This is quite amazing and a strong enough magnet can pull the entire body of the worm off the ground. Differences in soil can now be detected by how magnetic a worm is haha Epic stuff!
