Amazing Demonstrations of Holographic Light Projection From Diffraction Gradients

avatar

This is another great video by The Action Lab, this time showing the amazing properties of light as it interferes and projects itself across diffraction gradients. Diffraction is the distorting/reflecting of light when it encounters obstacles or groves. The typical slit experiments involves openings in which light interferes with the side walls causing it to bounce inwards and interfere with other light waves. This has the effect of projecting the slit openings holographically outwards. Diffraction gradients can also be made on a surface just by differing reflective/transparent surfaces, and which can even be imprinted onto chocolate! Delicious stuff!
