Technology has improved immensely, over the years the witnessed the invention of computers using LAN ports, then we moved to computers both having LAN and wireless. Technology has birthed innovations with the likes of access points (AP), when you talk about Networks.

On my post today I would be talking briefly about structural cabling, how they are labeled and tested. Do you know that Network infrastructure is no where without cables, structured cabling are the bedrock of any deployment. For you to be able to connect with your family and friends or colleagues home and abroad, you need to either stay connected to the internet or a telecommunications service provider.

When we carry out a network deployment cables are laid, is a professional term it’s grouped under passives devices. These cables can either be fibre or any of the categories of network cables, the list of this cables are (CAT5,CAT5e,CAT6, CAT6a) to mention a few. If we are talking about large deployment these cables are ran the closest intermediate data frame commonly called IDF, which is route to the main data frame MDF or a server room.

Cables are peculiar with the distance they can travel when data is passed through them, like for category 6 and it’s groups can only travel a hundred meter(100m) maximum. When this distance is exceed it will result to signal failure, for the fibre cables you are able to achieve more than a 100m when pulled, you can as well travel at about 500m before you lay a junction box.

For Large deployment like connecting two server centers on different locations more of like a continent kind of deployment, like Location A (Africa) Location B (Europe). This kind of deployment means we are definitely going to travel through the sea bed, they are special fibre cables which will be used. This cables are buried deep in the sea bed, which had aided the connectivity all around the world.

The cables laid are properly labeled, this activity helps when troubleshooting and maintenance is carried out. The machine used for this process is called a labeling machine, they are of different shapes and sizes and different brands. The usage is a easy one where you just key in what ever you want to be written then press the print key.

Testing for continuity has been made easy, thanks for the cable testing device, this test is carried out when the cable has been laid inside a conduit to ensure that there is no break in transmission, we carry out a cable test before termination is done.

Insulation of these cables will they last? Well Yes, if they are properly take care of they surly will. The insulation on the cables helps to protect it from external hazards, especially if you are working with fiber cable.
It’s been said that if strip these cables for examples any of the Categories internet cables you will see tiny bits of copper which are concealed in a two layer system.
The fibre cable is said to have tiny piece of glasses within it, when you are pulling this cable you have to handle with care cause it’s very delicate and if too much pressure is exerted on it it might break. That’s why the protection around it it’s solid likened to armound power cable.

The cables are terminated to different intelligent device which can make decisions on what to do with the incoming data.some examples of these active devices are the access points (AP), switches, cameras etc.
well my experience so far doing this or supervision has been very awesome, not actually stressful.
