Mote & international partners establish first ‘Rules of Thumb’ for marine connectivity conservation - Marine Conservation News

A sea turtle swims in the ocean.

A rule of thumb guide has been created for Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) so that conservation works can become more consistent and efficient.

The "Marine Connectivity Conservation 'Rules of Thumb' For MPA and MPA Network Design" was written by Barbara Lausche, Aaron Laur & Mary Collins and published by the IUCN WCPA Connectivity Conservation Specialist Group’s Marine Connectivity Working Group.

"This publication is the first guidance from the MCWG for advancing connectivity conservation practices in marine environments."

This publication is a big step in creating a more universial understanding of what is needed and can be down to protect our ocean ecosystems from pollution, climate change, overfishing, and other environmental damage.

What is ecological connectivity?

"..the movement of populations, individuals, genes, gametes and propagules between populations, communities and ecosystems, as well as the structural connection of non-living material from one location to another."

A beautiful bay.

🐬🐬🐬Donate to the Dolphin Project 🐬🐬🐬https://www.dolphinproject.com/donate/
Dolphin Project is a non-profit charitable organization, dedicated to the welfare and protection of dolphins worldwide. Founded by Richard (Ric) O’Barry on Earth Day, April 22, 1970, the organization aims to educate the public about captivity and, where feasible, retire and/or release captive dolphins.
The mission of Dolphin Project is to end dolphin exploitation and slaughter, as dolphins are routinely captured, harassed, slaughtered and sold into captivity around the world – all in the name of profit. Dolphin Project works not only to halt these slaughters, but also to rehabilitate captive dolphins for retirement and/or release, investigate and advocate for economic alternatives to dolphin slaughter, and to put a permanent end to dolphin captivity.

Port Sundries is not affiliated with Dolphin Project but supports their goal 100%.
