Hello nature lovers, today I bring you a post full of beautiful photos! I decided to shoot several macros with my "Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG OS Macro" lens but also to identify and describe a bit the ecology of each species photographed, so there is a lot of interesting information to learn about bugs and flowers! As a moderator of the community I always like to inspire new users by leaving my post as an example to create innovative content that can contribute something scientific to the community!🤔🕵️‍♂️👨‍🏫

What am I looking for as a curator???🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫/ Que busco como curador??🐜🦋

Something that always captures my attention first is to see a post with bibliographic sources, and it is something that is easy to capture in our posts, practically we must encourage other users to read a little more about the species that we present in our content! a post without a bibliographical reference is hardly credible for me and forces me to investigate to find out if the user "plagiarized" or is writing something "nonsense", therefore if you want to impress me I must see bibliographical sources in your post! just like I do in all my posts! WHAT IF THE CONTENT IS MY OWN? Two things apply here: 1) if it is a REFLECTION you should not use a bibliography, or 2) if you can prove that you are a specialist scientist in the area and you are currently in the field working with "that species".🕵️‍♂️👨‍🏫😍😮

An ecological contribution🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫/ Un aporte ecologico🐜🦋

Magnoliophyta🌻

One of the things that over time I noticed that was valued in the community is a scientific contribution! Describing what we are photographing helps us to better culture ourselves and this helps us to better understand the animals and plants that inhabit nature! while I was walking making macros I wanted to observe which flowers were the ones that received the most insects for their pollination and I was surprised that "Doronicum austriacum" was pollinated by many insects in just 15 minutes, I managed to count more than 13! I mean an average of almost one insect per minute an arthropod not only uses a flower to pollinate it can also use it for: food, shelter, reproduction (1).

Syritta pipiens🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🐜🦋

Here we have our first insect its scientific name is (Syritta pipiens), it can measure up to "9mm" as you can see its anatomy "reveals" it is a fly, here in Portugal they are common and are distributed in almost the entire territory! who would say that such a "tiny" animal is extremely territorial? the males hate to share their "flower with other flies". Their function in the ecosystem is important since they are also small pollinators! if you see it in your country then there is a problem... Since they are of "European" origin. (2)👨‍🏫📚😮🐝

In these photos there is something interesting and it is that many of us think that bees are the only pollinators on the planet and it is not like that, animals like Syritta pipiens also provide a natural balance, and without mentioning that they are food for superior animals such is the case of birds , spiders.🤯🤯

Stomorhina lunata🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🐜🦋

Another insect perched on one of the leaves of (Doronicum austriacum), was also easy to identify since its face gives it away, it is a fly, it is grouped in the "diptera" which are insects with 2 wings, the most interesting part of this insect is that they are also common in flowers since they feed on pollen and if you look at their head there is rest of pollen on it, when they clean themselves they end up releasing the pollen on another flower and thus pollinate! its larvae "are predatory"(3)👨‍🏫🐝

Nerium oleander🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🌼🌷

belongs to the genus Nerium🌻

This plant is very common in urban areas and cities, surely you have seen it near your home, it has a pleasant aroma but do not be carried away by its beautiful appearance, it is "toxic and bitter" in our society it is considered a poisonous plant! (3)

Vespula germanica🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🐝

Of all the insects that I photographed, this was the most common, currently there are not many butterflies there, so it was normal not to capture any! the European wasp as it is commonly known, is a "hymenoptera" characteristic for being very social! common in almost all the Portuguese territory! (4)🌼👨‍🏫📕

I always think that those most beautiful animals hide some "dark secret" this wasp is a powerful invader that due to anthropogenic factors came to invade the United States and some South American countries being considered "a plague".(4)🌻😮📚

Craspedia🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🐝

This beautiful flower belongs to the "asteraceae" family, I'm not an expert in botany but I think the species is (Pycnosorus globosa), its flowers are globular, for many years it was a commercial plant due to its beautiful flowers! As you can see, it is the preferred site of (Syritta pipiens) so I noticed the fly visited this flower more frequently!(5)😏🤩🌷

the flower preferred by flies🌻

There is an intimate relationship between flower species and insects and it seems very important to me that if we study which flowers are preferred by certain insects then we can attract them to our homes if we want to study them! or better yet we know which flower to look for if we want to get a certain insect!(5)🌼🤯

Lavandula spica🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🌻🌸

It must be one of the most popular flowers in the world, the famous lavender! It is common in high areas but it resists various types of environments, so we can also see them in parks! is known because it blooms in summer! it was not common to portugal it was introduced!(6)💐🌸

Apis mellifera🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🌻🌸

Of course, I had to find our great pollinator, the European bee, in some flower. It is an "apocrite hymenopteran", it is said that it is the bee with the greatest distribution on our planet "common in Europe, Africa and Asia", this animal is essential in the ecological balance since they are the quintessential pollinators!(7)🌼🌸

This plant called (Zinnia elegans) was very frequented by the European bee, it belongs to the Zinnia genus and is common in dry climates! the flower has many mutations and you can see this plant with flowers of various colors! widely used in decoration📚👨‍🏫🌼

Ameguilla🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🌻🌸

These bees are different in coloration appearing to be "silver" they belong to the Apidae family, more than 750 species have been discovered all over the planet! They behave like the European bee because they are very fast and don't last long on the flower when they feed! photographing them was difficult!(8)💐🌼

Echinacea purpurea🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🌻🌸

This beautiful flower belongs to the "Asteraceae" it is very famous because it has medicinal and "ornamental" uses. It caught my attention that it is a very striking flower but it did not attract many insects, and I only saw some common flies, sometimes the most striking sometimes does not attract insects!(9)😮💐🌼

Achillea alpina🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🌻🌸

It belongs to the genus: (Milenramas), it is a perennial that can reach up to two meters in height, it has a variety of mutations and therefore we see some with different colors, although normally its normal coloration is white! "flowers between July to September", has been introduced in some countries like Portugal for example!(10)🌼🌸🌷

the genus (Ozyptila) are spiders known as "crab spiders", in turn they are part of the "Thomisidae" family, these spiders are strange because they move laterally looking like real crabs! also their first legs are big, they have a "very powerful poison used to hunt insects", I couldn't call them pollinators because they are predators but they help keep the ecosystem balanced!(11)👨‍🏫🤯

Lycianthes rantonnetii🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🌻🌸

This beautiful plant is native to South America, and was introduced here in Portugal for ornamental purposes, do not see many insects on it so it is not very attractive to them! belongs to the family "Solanaceae".(12)📚🌎🤯

Numida meleagris🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🦃

This beautiful bird is part of the order: "Galinaceous" is of African origin, when the Portuguese went to colonize South America they introduced this species, therefore it is a bird with a great capacity for adaptation! many farms use them to control pests!(13)😏😏

Sarcophaga carnaria🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🦃

insects with great vision🐜🦋

Known as "chess fly" we all know it, they can measure up to 20 millimeters, the larvae of these insects are very resistant and are able to withstand high temperatures! they have a good sense of "smell" they are cosmopolitan!(14)🌼🤯

Tiphiidae🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🐝🌻

Here we see another specimen that belongs to the family (tiphiidae) that are the "flower wasps", they are "hymenoptera" that unlike other wasps these are usually solitary and territorial! many wasps to complete their life cycle need a host to lay their larvae so beetles are important to complete their life cycle!(15)😮😮

Cylindromyia🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🐝🌻

There are few studies on this species! It is very small and belongs to the "Tachinidae" family, they are flies that are originally found in Europe! they are dipterans with more than "1300" species around the world!(16)📕👨‍🏫🌷

Coryzus hyosciami🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫🐝🌻

It is an insect that belongs to the family "Rhopalidae" does not produce odor and are common in flowers and herbs! in Portugal we practically find it in almost the whole country! They are small and do not reach a centimeter! they feed on plants and their adulthood occurs in the "winter" months!(17)😯🧠🐜

Saludos @oscurity
