Grasshopper in trouble! / ¡Un Saltamonte en apuros! [ENG/ESP]
¡Hoy trabajé en mi jardín y me sorprendí porque creo que llegué a la hora del almuerzo de esta araña!
An Argiope argentata spider has been living in my garden for a month. It has a favorite place to spin its web. Sometimes I have seen it move a few meters, but it is always the same area of the garden, near some Hibiscus rosa-sinensis plants commonly known as "cayenne".
En mi jardín vive una araña Argiope argentata desde hace mes. Tiene un lugar preferido para tejer su telaraña. A veces la he visto que se muda unos metros pero siempre es la misma zona del jardín, cerca de unas plantas de Hibiscus rosa-sinensis comúnmente conocida como "cayena".
Today I could see that it is bigger than the last time I photographed it and I think this is nothing new since look at the size of the lunch they will consume.
Hoy pude ver que está más grande de la última vez que la fotografíe y creo que esto no es novedad ya que miren el tamaño del almuerzo que consumirá.
The prey of this Argiope argentata is a large grasshopper. It is wrapped in a kind of sack made of the same web as the net. The most impressive thing is that this sack hangs from a single thread.
Realmente la presa de esta Argiope argentata es un saltamonte de gran tamaño. Está envuelto en una especie de saco hecho con la misma telaraña de la red. Lo más impresionante es que este saco cuelga de un solo hilo.
If you look at this picture, if I were the grasshopper, I would be scared to death because this spider looks hungry 🤣🤣🤣...however this spider has a kind of fangs (chelicerae) that inject venom into its prey immobilizing or killing it. The good news is that the venom of the Argiope argentata is not lethal to humans, but I would not want to be bitten by this spider.
Si observan esta foto, si yo fuera el saltamonte estaría muerta del miedo ya que esta araña luce realmente hambrienta 🤣🤣🤣...sin embargo esta araña tiene una especie de colmillos (quelíceros) que inyectan veneno a su presa inmovilizándola o matándola. La buena noticia es que el veneno de la Argiope argentata no es letal para los humanos pero en realidad no quisiera ser picada por esta araña.
How long will it take for this spider to eat its lunch? I don't know, but I will be checking daily to see how it is doing with its food.
¿Cuánto tiempo tardará esta araña en comer su almuerzo? No lo sé! pero estaré atenta a revisar a diario cómo va con su comida.
