Goodmorning Hive and world, its a quiet lovely orange morning when my little one came in the bedroom saying the sky is torn. Torn? I say..
What do you mean? We walk into his bedroom and we see the most gorgeous orange sky WITH a stripe white. Now I understand what he meant.

Its funny because I didn’t have the answer.

So I made a few pictures while walking the dogs and I took the guys all to school. I am now on a break and I have found some interesting information about what it is. Nemo is always the answer. Its a school service aswell, so I am educational and parental at the same time, oh and I am blogging so thats three flies ...... ehhhh bees at one time.

When the weather is sunny or the sun is starting to rise in the morning and you look at the blue sky above you, it is often that you see where the planes have flown. The sky is full of white stripes criss-crossing the sky because of the many planes. Nowadays its more quiet because the corona pandemic and the fact that there are not alot of flights. Where exactly do these stripes come from, and what can we do with them?

Passenger planes fly in our country at an altitude of about ten kilometers. It is very cold up there, the temperature is around fifty degrees below zero. The moment an airplane passes by, all kinds of exhaust fumes come out of the back of the airplane. That will make a streak in the air. Aircrafts run on kerosene; this is a mixture of different hydrocarbons. In kerosene, the number of hydrogen atoms is on average twice the number of carbon atoms. We can then write down the combustion reaction as follows:

2 CnH2n + 3n O2 → 2n CO2 + 2n H2O

We on earth see that water vapor at the back of the plane is released when kerosene is burned. Usually there is already an amount of water vapor in the air. The streak is created when the aircraft replenishes the water vapor concentration until the air is saturated with it. Then ice crystals form in the sky. To freeze, a crystallization core is needed and dust particles can serve for this. When such a small drop freezes, it will grow strongly by attracting water vapor from the environment.

Así que hice algunas fotos mientras paseaba a los perros y llevé a todos los chicos a la escuela. Ahora estoy en un descanso y he encontrado información interesante sobre lo que es. Nemo es siempre la respuesta. También es un servicio escolar, así que soy educativa y paterna al mismo tiempo, y estoy escribiendo en un blog, así que son tres moscas ... ehhhh abejas a la vez.

Cuando el clima está soleado o el sol comienza a salir por la mañana y miras el cielo azul sobre ti, es a menudo que ves hacia dónde han volado los aviones. El cielo está lleno de franjas blancas que cruzan el cielo debido a la gran cantidad de aviones. Hoy en día es más tranquilo debido a la pandemia de corona y al hecho de que no hay muchos vuelos. ¿De dónde proceden exactamente estas rayas y qué podemos hacer con ellas?

Los aviones de pasajeros vuelan en nuestro país a una altitud de unos diez kilómetros. Hace mucho frío allá arriba, la temperatura ronda los cincuenta grados bajo cero. En el momento en que pasa un avión, todo tipo de gases de escape salen de la parte trasera del avión. Eso hará una racha en el aire. Los aviones funcionan con queroseno; esta es una mezcla de diferentes hidrocarburos. En el queroseno, el número de átomos de hidrógeno es en promedio el doble del número de átomos de carbono. Entonces podemos escribir la reacción de combustión de la siguiente manera:

Also the air is very dry at that altitude. The concentration of ice crystals and water vapor in the stripe is then higher than outside. The air is not saturated and can still absorb water. That then also happens. You can see that the stripe dissolves in the air; the line disappears. The dryer the air, the faster the stripe will disappear.
But when the air traffic picks up again there will be so many again.

Además, el aire es muy seco a esa altitud. La concentración de cristales de hielo y vapor de agua en la franja es entonces más alta que en el exterior. El aire no está saturado y aún puede absorber agua. Eso también sucede entonces. Puedes ver que la raya se disuelve en el aire; la línea desaparece. Meteorologists can therefore deduce what the weather will be by looking at the speed at which aircraft stripes dissolve. If the streaks dissolve quickly, the air is dry and there is little chance that the weather will change. However, if the streaks remain for a long time, the weather will likely change within a few days. Now we all know it aswell. Sometimes, however, it is not so easy to distinguish between airplane stripes and normal cloud cover. This is because the stripes "fan out". In my country the Netherlands, observations from a satellite we own, shows that the airplane stripes persist for an average of one to two days; quite a long time! And that's right, because our weather is not very stable here. Today is a nice day with a bit of sun.

I can not tell how long it will we visible in the sky, but when the boys come back from school I can tell how the streaks came there and thet the sky is not torn.

I didn't realize weather predictions could be made from studying the exhaust of the jets like that, but now that you mention it and why, it makes pretty good sense. It's cloud formation of sorts as you describe. Thanks for sharing. !wine
