We know that most living beings require inputs to produce their processes, and these are responsible for maintaining vital functions. In these mechanisms, metabolic wastes are generated, which are even utilized by other organisms or enrich the substrate.

As you move up the evolutionary scale we will see a refinement of structures that are even different in plants and animals. Small cells have microscopic structures called vacuoles, where digestion takes place and then becomes a contractile vacuole that will look for a way to exit and release the generated inorganic wastes.

If an organism does not release these products, it would explode, and that is why in one way or another, rudimentary or specialized mechanisms have been generated, but they have a valuable function that allows the regulation of life.

The beginning of life in water was simple, and substances were taken from water and diluted in it. A fundamental structure is the cell membrane, an indispensable medium that divides and separates the internal from the external environment. This structure maintains an elementary traffic, where certain molecules enter and leave.

This membrane also maintains a balance of water, gases and salts, as we know that every living being requires these elements. During these processes, these chemical substances that must leave are generated and it is an evolutionary success that all have found the way to execute it.

Plants also produce wastes; however, they do not have specialized excretion systems. Some gases, such as carbon dioxide and oxygen, leave by diffusion through the stomata. Water, on the other hand, can do the same, and we see it as dew from their leaves. Plants have a system of vessels, the xylem and phloem, some elements not needed will leave through the roots.

The leaf is fundamental, and through it many products are excreted, which in excess cause their death. Animals, especially the most evolved ones, have already developed excretion systems, and we see that they are becoming more specialized, up to those that already have a complex system of organs adapted to a function, and this is what we have called division of labor.

Our body also releases those substances that we do not use through a consolidated excretory system. The kidneys have an elementary function in our existence, and every day there are even more kidney patients for not taking proper care.
