TOILET PAPER IN PHOTOGRAPHY ... with a teaser for a more elaborate post

Toilet paper is a really cool stuff with an impressively large, stretched and variable use case.

In this post I'll show you how I use it in my Insect hunts.
TP 1.jpg
I put it on the flesh on my camera to soften and disperse a bit the light ... it is not as good as a proper diffuser ... but it helps a lot. When using the built-in flash in my macro expeditions, I can retain the deepest depth of field ( which is still shallow on that distances) and the high shutter speed necessary to catch the small arthropods in action.
The following photographs were taken using the Macro lens converter, with the camera's manual settings at : f - 8,0 ... 1/2000 ... ISO - 100.

Here the flash was at minimum strength. No toilet paper.
IMG_4805 samo Malo.jpg
Here the flash was on medium setting ... and there was no toilet paper. The picture is burned.

Here the flash was on medium setting ... I put the toilet paper ... and as you can see, the result is a decent photograph with all details lit and not a pixel overexposed.
These shots were taken only to show how the thing with toilet paper works ... on the following photograph you'll see ...
IMG_4762 malo.jpg
... how it looks when I'm photographing something really interesting ... a herd of aphids attacked by a lady beetle larvae ...
IMG_4591 malo.jpg
... or a spiral leaf on my tangerine tree, where the aphids have found their home.
IMG_4933 malo.jpg
This series of shots are also some sort of Teaser ... for a series of posts about the life, death and reproduction of small arthropods in my garden, on the Tangerine plant exactly.
I'll publish this stuff in the next few weeks ... and I'll call it IN THE CITRUS UNIVERSE ... if I don't get the idea for a better title meanwhile :D.

Here is another aphid eating larva shot.
IMG_4811 malo.jpg
Here is a look at the tree ... is a small tree ... it looks like a shrub.
IMG_4812 malo.jpg
On this photograph you can see some of my roses.
IMG_4641 samo MALO.jpg
Another cool thing about the toilet paper as a diffuser ... is that it has layers ... in some occasion one layer will be the ideal solution ... and in some other you can use two or three ... here you can see my toilet paper layers nicely packaged :) It looks almost like I bought them in some specialized shop ... :D
IMG_4646 samo malo.jpg
Here the package is ready to go into the bag.
IMG_4647 samo MALO.jpg
I always put them here before the action.
IMG_4652 samo malo.jpg
And, finally, here is the entire equipment ... you can't see it, but I swear that is inside those little bags.
TP 2.jpg
Here you can see how the toilet paper looks when mounted on camera ... this photograph was taken by a friend with the mobile phone ... just like the next one ...
TP 3.jpg
... where you can see me with some of my feline assistants.
IMG_5568 samo MALO.jpg
And that's it :) hope you find this stuff interesting ... all the photographs, except for those few I already said that were taken by a friend - are my work.

I used a regular paper that you use for printers - it works well too.
I tries those thin, white espresso coffee cups.. also will do. Must try with toilet paper :)

All that stuff is good .... but ... the toilet paper carries an additional symbolic weight :D

Wow! Toilet paper which you could not buy from camera shop!! Nice tricks you have discovered here! The price of toilet paper would go up soon because of your discovery!!
Your assistants are having a nice break!
