Effect of Excessive Screen Time

avatar

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog at this hour. Do you know that if you use the number of hours that you spend watching television in a day to do other things, you will have more time for yourself. Watching television takes about three to four hours per day on a average, imagine how much hours you will have to spend quality time with your family, study, workout and so on. Well, sit back, relax and enjoy all that I have packaged for your reading pleasure.

I have noticed overtime when I compare how fast time runs when I'm watching television and when I'm doing other activities. There are times I would not believe that I have spent five hours in front of my television set, especially when I'm playing video games. During these times, I complain of lack of time. My routine when I return from work is to eat, play video games till I start feeling sleepy and that's it till the next day when I'm probably going to repeat the same routine. I gained some extra hours in a day when I disciplined myself to reduce the number of hours I spend watching television.

There is something I have also observed for quite a number of time and I'm pretty sure some people can relate to it. Each time I'm with my friends and there is power, we are either busy watching movies or playing video games and the moment there is no power we engage in one form of discussion or another. In other words, the point I'm trying to make is that television makes people to interact less or argue unnecessary about just what they are watching on the TV. There is more to life than sitting in front of the TV all day - staying away from your TV set will make you explore more about life and have real discussions.

In the same vein, too much of television can create a gap in the family between parents and children, and between couples. When the television is on all evening, parents have little or no time to have a heart to heart discussions with their kids to know how they are doing in school both academically and morally, if anyone is bullying them or if they are bullies themselves, among others. Similarly, couples would be focused on the TV show or movie that they are watching till they fall asleep without having quality discussion about their family, career and emotions. It is very difficult to have a productive conversation when the TV is switched on and it is a mistake so many people are making. Families will be able to bond with each other if they can afford to switch the TV off for some time in a day.
