Life in 20 and 200 Years

The Future

This is my response to the question of the week by @ecotrain. For more info check here

No one knows what will happen in a couple of moments from now and yet we humans love to predict how the world would be in a couple of decades or centuries from now. This kind of desire shows the basic human need to control everything around us. Well, for some this could be a growth plan of some sort, but for me, this is a fun activity - time to let my imagination run wild based on current reality. With this said let me get started with how the world would be in 20 or 200 years from now.

Tumisu Pixabay

Will there be true humans then?

In twenty years' time, yes I guess; but in a couple of centuries from now, I don't think there will be real humans.

What do I mean by that? The human race will not be what it is today. Neuralink by Elon Musk could be just a very tiny starting point in this area. Technology would have further advanced (?). We would be replacing human parts with machines, not just because of disability; we would be doing so for convenience.

There are people who implant their keys and payment modes into their body. Wrist implants are becoming common in some cultures today, but this is just the beginning. In 200 years this would be done on a larger scale to acquire super human powers.

The Superman movies aren't just movies, if you go back to watch movies of old you would notice that the technology showcased there as just an imagination at the time of making it is now in place. Richie Rich is an example.

KELLEPICS pixabay

Would we need schools?

I bet not, we would just have to download data from supercomputers and we'd be on our way.

We will not be spending time learning skills as we do now. The computers would do most of that for us, so what would we be doing? Learning to control the supercomputers and manage the machine we have at our service, I guess!

What would be the main focus of the human race?

That is not hard to guess from what is happening on the ground right? we'd be taking over space and trying to control the universe. This war for space is afoot already. We love leaving our footprints and garbage wherever we go (even in space) so I believe that would be our main drive.

The Digital Artist Pixabay

Will we have names or an identity?

Twenty years hence we may still hang on to our identity and human nature, but barely by a thread.

200 years from now, I am not surprised if we would be a just a number that is tracked all day. Every aspect of our existence would be tracked and watched by the government machinery and we will be just data. Personal security and privacy would be words that will not mean anything and taken out of dictionaries the stored central data systems.

Would we all look alike? No, I don't think so, we would still love our creativity and we may come up with bizarre looks (what seems bizarre now may not be able to hold a candle to what we'll see then).

200 years hence it is a probability that we would be more metal than man.

Would we be searching for peace and harmony?

20 years from now we may be desperate, but 200 years hence, no I bet not, we would be searching for power - more likely superpower, and would give anything to upgrade our systems to be supra humans. We may not think it immoral to achieve power and control through any means.

ImaArtist Pixabay

Would there be a need for gadgets then?

Nope, I don't think so. We would be the gadget, the host and the controller. Of course, there would be higher powers controlling our thoughts and actions. You think I've gone too far with this? Elon's Neuralink monkey plays chess, ping pong and video games - with his thoughts of course assisted by the decoded data from his neural activity.

Would we become machines 200 years from now?

That could be a possibility. Ask Dr Peter Scott-Morgon the world's first human Cyborg. His latest update in March 2021 says he is thriving, his autobiography [Cyborn Again] (https://www.penguin.co.uk/books/317/317179/peter-2-0/9780241447093.html)' is now being serialized in the UK Newspaper- The Daily Mail.

Dr. Peter Scott, a robotic scientist, was diagnosed with motor neuron disease. He knew that he was facing imminent death and decided to slowly turn himself into a human cyborg. He lives as half man - half machine, defying death and hopes to be around for another twenty years or so.

How many more people are going to take this route and go beyond. I leave that to your imagination.

Welcome to the world of the Cyborn Again

What would be the most important thing in 20 or 200 years?

I guess it would be time, everything else could be bought but not time. We would be vying for more time on this planet to be able to achieve more.

Kuloser Pixabay

Would men and women marry and reproduce?

I wonder if that would be necessary. Even with the current culture, I see that the institution of marriages is getting outdated.

With same-sex marriages and love being redefined every day, marriage would be an option only for a rare few.

Reproduction would be possible for the elite; with more resources to pay (I wonder if money would even mean a thing, we may switch to bartering). They could choose designer babies with perfect physical structures, smartness and intelligent, as they please from sperm banks. Two hundred years from now they would be made to order, in long factory lines. Did I take this too far?

Geralt Pixbay

Would we be emotional creatures still?

Sure, why not? AI (Artificial Intelligence) is right now in the emotional school. We would soon have sentient machines, taught and tutored in the art of human emotions by deep learning and machine learning. I believe we are making progress. It wouldn't be strange to have regular AI nannies who could relate to the little ones and teach them to laugh and talk in a one-dimensional sort of way. Adults could have AI sex partners, counselors, friends and companions all rolled into one who would fulfill all their needs without expecting anything in return. Love would have come a full circle, it would be take, take and take some more without having to give.

Abusive relationships may not be a problem then. Anger issues need not have to be dealt with anymore as creatures at the receiving end are only humanoids/ dummies. Do you see where I am going with this emotional thing? I leave the rest to your imagination.

Would there be purpose and meaning in life?

In another twenty years, the meaning and purpose of life may have changed a lot. The human values that we hold now may be lost in the sands of time.

200 years hence I guess there would be a strange kind of purpose and meaning to what life is then, it may have very little to do with the old world values. It may be a mechanical world with mechanical values to it.

To conclude

We are being watched, imprisoned and taught to live like robots right now with the Pandemic. (No, I am not a conspiracy theorist) but I see beyond what the governments of the world want us to see. In India, you are tracked 24x7 if you are diagnosed with Covid like symptoms. The GPS on our phone is activated to see where you are all the time legally. Nonetheless, Google does this all the time whether you've switched on your GPS or not. You've signed for all that when you subscribe to their products.

We are taught to obey commands. We do not handle real money anymore, our money how much and where it goes is tracked all the time, and one fine day you may wake up to realize that the government has taken it all away. (We experienced this in India to a certain extent already). This is just the shadow of things to come.

I only hope that I won't be hanging around long enough to experience/serve in a robotic world that I don't subscribe to.

The powers that be has all this and more chalked out for us. It is fine if you don't subscribe to my ides here, I've done my research and my analysis too, its up to you!

Thanks for patiently reading my post. Being an optimist I hate to sound pessimistic but I need to be realistic too.

Will there be true humans then?

Many of them are not even true nowadays. There are no cyborgs nowadays, but you probably know what I mean.
Emotions, feelings, honesty, helpfulness are rare things even nowadays. These are the real values, which cannot be replaced (or made) by computers. Maybe honesty and helpfulness yes, but the rest of them not. True emotions and feelings cannot be created or replaced by computers.

Absolutely, we are already halfway there, it's not going to be all that hard to get there.
Nah machines will remain machines, no amount of machine learning or deep learning is going to bring that finesse or emotional ability.
That is what worries me.

I agree with your point here. No machine is ever going to be human, no matter what it learns.

Okay, I agree, machines will never learn real actual emotions. But could they learn to imitate them? I say yes. Could they learn to do it so well that they would fool emotional humans? I still say yes. By that point, would it really matter? Hmmm... let's think about that one!

(Edited)

Oh yeah I guess they will imitate them well enough to fool those who choose to be fooled. Would it matter then, I don't think so because I guess we would had reached a emotionless state by then.
Thanks for joining in on this discussion @stortebeker

i've thought this a bunch of times too...
hehehe
how often do animals learn responses in order to elicit an action from us.

i'm not saying animals don't have emotions - but - i'm saying do they have the emotions that we INTERPRET??? OR are we adding to it because we like to imagine more /less than it is??

i totally agree with you on this one. Machines will be machines. - but if WE ALL AGREE that they're doing something that they're not, then... does it matter what they're really doing??? hahahaha

brilliant comment

Exactly: If something makes us think something, it's actually enough for it to be so, since we all see the world from our own perspective. If the tree falls in the forest, and even if you were right there to hear and see it, you could still tell yourself that it didn't fall (especially if others agree). So then, it just as well may not have fallen at all.

and how often that exact thing happens - all throughout life!

it amazes me when people truly convince themselves that something OTHER THAN WHAT THEY JUST SAW - happened! LOLOL

Oh, I'm sure it happens all the time, it's just that typically it may involve things of such minute importance, that in the end it doesn't really matter. But then again, sometimes it does!

Your post is well written and I like your exploration into this. The Canadian government released a documented plan for the merging of humanity with tech and have said we will have "new bodies". I don't think they have human bodies in mind.

Hmm.. even if you weren't a conspiracy theorist there are these tell tale clues everywhere which make you want to explore more.
Thanks for the encouragement and that piece of information @nineclaws
Hope you had a lovely weekend.

You're very accurate with this:

Hmm.. even if you weren't a conspiracy theorist there are these tell tale clues everywhere which make you want to explore more.

It's quite obvious once a person is willing to see. You're welcome and I had a productive weekend. I hope you have a good week.

Wow, thank you for such a deep, insightful post! I'm not saying that everything you described also coincides with my own vision, but it certainly makes sense. I especially liked the thought experiment of cyborgs and robots, and where all that could possibly go.

Adults could have AI sex partners, counselors, friends and companions all rolled into one who would fulfill all their needs without expecting anything in return.

Hahaha, true, under these conditions I would not be surprised if people stop getting married. However, I believe they would discover that with such an "ideal" fake partner something else would be lost. Maybe the joy of having an argument with a real person? Though, if that person is just as immature emotionally as oneself, I guess everyone would be better off on their own.

@stortebecker thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment. What is a blog post with no reader or comments.
I guess by then we would be mostly fakes too, cold emotionless beings. Wonder if we would miss the subtle, realistic, niceties of life. Would we even remember how life once was? Maybe we would have withdrawn deep into our own private world I guess. I would love to know your thoughts on this.

No worries! Though I have to admit, I tend to comment only when I have something to say that I believe is meaningful in some way. But true, a post is really only complete once someone has read it, and thought about something there.

As for fake emotions, I think a lot depends on how you were raised. If you grew up by a bunch of robots catering to your emotional whims, I believe actual human interaction would be annoying (not to mention how annoyed everyone else would be interacting with you). On the other extreme I think it would be not so clear: If you grew up with emotionally complex humans around you, in whom you recognized your own self, maybe the give-give-give practice of the robot would feel nice at first. But eventually you'd miss the human-ness of the interaction.

i agree
i think the concept would start off being fun and well - really completely selfish! hahahaha

but being selfLESS is a part of love.

growing TOGETHER is a part too... compromise, learning, adapting.. wouldn't that get boring for someone over time? to not see the flaws in one another and enjoy the beauty of bettering one's self with the help of another human being - and being that influence in another person to help them too?

i don't know hahaahha i mean for me? yes - i prefer flaws. I prefer experiencing growth and challenges and yes arguments are not fun - but they do have value.

could AI be programmed to be that though??? hahahaha something that changes with you - challenges you - is stubborn half the time? LOL

well now that I think of it LOL I used to play Sims! and that was the whole thrill of it for me!!! They created a character that actually started out one way and was changed because of how you interacted with them. for better or worse.

so... hmmmm, wow.

we're in trouble
hahahahahahahahahahahaha

Well, I guess the first prototypes would be the "yes dear, of course dear" types. But then, as you said, people realize they want to have the complex sensation of growing together, and all that, machines will adapt to it. In the end, you may end up with a bitchy computer that people could fall in love with. Hard to say if something like that would be a hit or a flop. But ultimately, being surrounded by robots with various levels of emotionality, would make the daily experience way more interesting.

this is really making me think hahahahahaha

I agree it would be hard to say if it is a hit or a flop. Considering the fact that people hardly relate to each others as they did 20 years ago, 200 years hence how would they be? I would say they would match the computer inch for inch. I wonder if they would miss those subtle emotions at all.

This is quite an interesting question, and really hard to answer. After all, you can't miss something you've never had. But then again, maybe you still do, you just don't know what it is. Haven't you felt that way sometimes, that something is missing, though you can't say exactly what it is? Eventually, when nobody can remember real human connections, it may become something mystical, the stuff from forgotten dreams, people in general prefer to ignore, since they can't fit it into their real world experiences.

This is amazing. ok - I just want to like - read this back over again and imagine it all.

It's not really necessary to imagine it though - because as you said, it's all around us. I'm not a conspiracy theorist either (but boy do I love hearing them! heheeh)

and not just hearing but analyzing, comparing, judging, contemplating - and more hehehe

ok maybe that does make me a conspiracy theorist??? LOL i don't know - I just love analyzing things. In fact my brain never stops analyzing (blessing and curse)

I agree with you. time. time is the ultimate prize. In my opinion, it always has been - always will be.

We want to be immortal (plot twist: we are. lol) and we will do anything in our power to achieve that.

I think those who realize they have immortality are the ones who have more peace and contentment - because they aren't trying to extend this life. They're ready for what comes next, in time.

but to those who have lots of questions and fears... really - time. its the race. having more money - leads to spending more time on what they want. having more power - leads to gaining more time in the day. (not really gaining - but adjusting the schedule so more time is theirs)

sad for those who spend their whole life gaining power, money, fame, influence - ONLY to realize at the end that they never GOT the time they really wanted - because it was all burned up in the pursuit of those other precursors.

This world is a very strange one... I am often in awe by it. confused by it. intrigued by it. saddened by it. overjoyed by it.

I think the "trick" is to keep reminding ourselves that we are seeing "it" dimly through a veil, and to try to elevate our mind to the things that are more real. the things that truly matter.

difficult to do though - because we truly do battle with those dual natures.

As far as 20/200... who knows. hehehe I suppose everything around us has some level of distraction though. something threatening to be the next fear that keep us limited and controllable. Not conspiracy theory - just human nature and fact. I think the answer is maybe trying to remain grounded in the truth that surrounds us, pulling back from the incessant information that is being told to us, and forming our perspective from the stimuli around us.

Right now - i have bits of green peeking at me from my patio. hehehe I'm so happy to see that green. I can hear about 6 different kinds of birds in the forest surrounding my home, the sun isn't quite up - but the increasing light is promising that it will be here for its daily visit soon. I'm reading a post from a dear friend who is sharing her brilliant mind from around the world (thanks to the internet and hive! hehe) and leaving my mark (massive mark) on her post as a connection to her. counting down the days til the project is up and running, trying not to let fear sweep me away with the waves of panic, taking one day at a time, trying to find balance, bring joy, exude compassion, hide from the boogeyman, and curtail my anger.

hehehehe we have a lot of distractions - and I'm sure AI will be one of them. I can't wait til we get rid of them all and live forever in abundance and joy. hehehehe

thanks for this my friend :)

i love you

One thing I know, I am ready to go anytime when the master calls.. I know that life doesn't end here. I am an eternal soul and I do not worry about time.
Remaining grounded in the truth gives me the assurance of enteral life and peace. I worry about nothing.
I love being the simple human he created to have fellowship with him as in the garden of Eden.
We have tried to change the very nature of life and the purpose of life with our so called inventions.
Thanks for stopping by to share your thoughts and beliefs. I love it when we speak about these things.
