This week's question is an opportunity to think about the complex and often underestimated impacts and consequences of the dizzying technological development and the intense use of technology, augmented by the Covid pandemic since 2019 and other events in the world.

La pregunta de esta semana, es una oportunidad para pensar en la compleja y muchas veces subestimados impactos y consecuencias del vertiginoso desarrollo tecnológico y el intenso uso de la tecnología, incrementado por la pandemia del Covid desde 2019 y otros sucesos en el mundo.

For several decades now, we have seen films presenting various accounts of the future of humanity, in which conflicts, devastation and destruction are unfortunately predicted due to uncontrolled technological progress and the dehumanisation of society, captivated and/or subjugated by what they consider development and power struggles, going beyond the ethical principles that promote the defence of life and peace.

Desde hace varias décadas hemos vistos películas donde se presentan diversos relatos del futuro de la humanidad, en los cuales lamentablemente se pronostican conflictos, devastación y destrucción por el incontrolado avance tecnológico y la deshumanización de la sociedad cautivada y/o sometida por lo que consideran desarrollo y lucha de poder, rebasando los principios éticos que promueven la defensa de la vida y la paz.

Among the films that became references of these approaches are I Robot, Wall E, The Lorax, which were box office hits, considered science fiction, however the transcendence of their message in relation to the importance of preserving and promoting the fundamental essence of man, his spirituality, as well as the need to have the basic elements for survival on the planet such as air, water and natural resources, showing their scarcity and inadequate conditions that made life on the planet impossible.

Entre las películas que se convirtieron en referencias de estos planteamientos se encuentran Yo robot, Wall E, Lorax, las cuales fueron éxitos de taquilla, consideradas de ciencia ficción, sin embargo la transcendencia de su mensaje con relación a la importancia del conservar y promover la esencia fundamental del hombre, su espiritualidad, así como también la necesidad de disponer de los elementos básicos para la supervivencia en el planeta como el aire, agua y recursos naturales, enseñando su escasez y condiciones inadecuadas que hacían imposible la vida en el planeta.

What if we reflect on the possibility of it happening, and it is not just science fiction?
¿Y si reflexionamos en la posibilidad de que ocurra, y no sólo se trate de ciencia ficción?.
It is frightening to think of an affirmative answer, but it can happen, for many reasons including blindness and refusal to change unsustainable consumption and production habits, establishing ethical and bioethical principles in technological development and the power struggle.
Es espeluznante pensar en una respuesta afirmativa, sin embargo puede suceder, por muchas razones entre ellas la ceguera y negación a cambiar los hábitos de consumo y producción no sustentables, establecer principios éticos y bioéticos en el desarrollo tecnológico y la lucha de poder.
It is a very complex issue, with multiple edges, shadows and uncertainty, anything is possible, even the incomprehensible and the rationally implausible.
Es un tema muy complejo, con múltiples aristas, sombras e incertidumbre, todo es posible, incluso lo incomprensible y lo racionalmente inverosímil.
Thirty years ago, many of today's technological advances were unimaginable, thanks to artificial intelligence, astrophysics, engineering, physics, genetics, biology and others, and research continues in search of more inventions
Hace 30 años era inimaginable muchos de los avances tecnológicos actuales, gracias a la inteligencia artificial, la astrofísica, la ingeniería, física, genética, biología entre otros, y se continua investigando en búsqueda de más invenciones.
It is necessary to recognise a significant scientific progress in various sciences that has contributed to reduce problems and improve productivity, however there is something for all tastes and preferences, for leisure, fun, warlike actions and a little bit of everything.
Es necesario reconocer un significativo avance científico en diversas ciencias que ha contribuido a disminuir problemas y mejorar la productividad, sin embargo hay para todos los gustos y preferencias, para el ocio, la diversión, acciones bélicas de todo un poco.
The market also offers a variety of possibilities to access cutting-edge technology equipment and applications, the most up-to-date ones to "make life easier and more fun", even as part of the social valuation patterns of those who can keep up with the overwhelming pace of updates and show them off on social networks.
El mercado también ofrece variadas posibilidades de acceder a equipos y aplicaciones de tecnología de vanguardia, las más actualizadas para “facilitar la vida y hacerla más divertida”, incluso como parte de los patrones de valoración social, de quien puede seguir el ritmo avasallante de la actualización y exhibirlos en las redes sociales.

So impressive is the whirlwind of options that space travel is now part of the extravagance of pushing the limits set by terrestrial options.

Es tan impresionante el torbellino de opciones que actualmente los viajes al espacio son parte de la extravagancia de sobrepasar los límites establecidos por las opciones terrenales.

All this does not surprise us, it is part of today's society, of the new reality of the 21st century and of the developing one, which we do not know what it will bring with it.
Todo esto no nos sorprende, forma parte de la sociedad actual de la nueva realidad del siglo XXI y de la que está en desarrollo, que no sabemos que traerá consigo.

So what is the turning point?

The answer seems simple, but it is not, to achieve the harmonious coexistence of technology in any of its expressions and spirituality. Nowadays technology is part of everyday life even in the most remote places on the planet, so its importance is recognised and accepted for carrying out activities at local and global level.

¿Entonces cuál es el punto de inflexión ?

La respuesta parece simple, pero no lo es, lograr la coexistencia armónica de la tecnología en cualquiera de sus expresiones y la espiritualidad. Actualmente la tecnología forma parte de la vida cotidiana hasta en los más recónditos lugares del planeta, por lo que se reconoce y acepta su importancia para realizar actividades a nivel local y global.

It is a useful and indispensable resource for communication and for carrying out multiple educational, medical, administrative, family and work activities, but its use must also be controlled in order to avoid personal and social isolation and dependencies such as Nomophobia or addiction to video games, which has increased in recent years, causing physical and psychological health problems.

Es un recursos útil e indispensable para comunicarnos y realizar múltiples actividades educativas, médicas, gestiones administrativas, familiares, laborales, pero también debe controlarse su uso para no llegar al aislamiento personal y social y dependencias como la Nomofobia o la adicción a los videos juegos, que se ha incrementado en los años reciente, originando problemas de salud físicos y sicológicos.

In this order of ideas, when we consider technology in synchrony with "spirituality", it may seem incongruous and irreverent, but it is not so, both are part of life and are necessary for our integral wellbeing.

En este orden de ideas, cuando se plantea a la tecnología en sincronía con la “espiritualidad”, puede parecer incongruente e irreverente, pero no es así, ambas formar parte de la vida y son necesarias para nuestro bienestar integral.

The unbalanced use of or adherence to one of them is what causes conflict or can give rise to unusual ideas. Each has its role and contribution to make, it is up to us to do so in a balanced way.

El uso o adhesión desequilibrada a una de ellas es lo que ocasiona conflicto o pueden originar ideas inusitadas. Cada una tiene su rol y aporte, depende de nosotros hacerlo de manera ecuánime.

We use technology according to our requirements, not the other way around, and that is what we must be clear about.

Usamos la tecnología de acuerdo a nuestros requerimientos, no es lo contrario, y en eso es lo que debemos estar claros.

In this order of ideas, I take this opportunity to highlight the personal responsibility of the use of technology, as well as the ethics, normative and legal context linked to technological development that must be established by governmental and political levels, to prevent technology from threatening the wellbeing, peace, the balance of the biosphere and the integral health of future generations.
En este orden de ideas, aprovecho la oportunidad para destacar la responsabilidad personal del uso de la tecnología, así como igualmente la ética, contexto normativo y legal vinculado al desarrollo tecnológico que deben ser establecidas por los niveles gubernamentales y políticos, para evitar que la tecnología atenten contra el bienestar, la paz, el equilibrio de la biosfera y la salud integral de las futuras generaciones.

Writing this post to share it with you has led me to ask myself many questions, for which I have no answers at the momento, will be part of my reflections, how we can contribute in some way to the betterment of society and treasure spirituality as the essence of humanity.

Redactar este post para compartirlos con ustedes, me ha llevado a formularme muchas preguntas, de las cuales no tengo respuestas por ahora, serán parte de mis reflexiones, como podemos contribuir de alguna a mejorar a la sociedad y atesorar la espiritualidad como la esencia de la humanidad.

Muchas veces en la vida me había realizado la pregunta, ¿puede la fe convivir con la tecnología?, al cabo de algunos años pienso, que la tecnología es un apoyo importante a la espiritualidad y viceversa.
Mejor escrito no pudo estar este fabuloso artículo. Muchas gracias a mi querida profe @raizayanez por este gran aporte a la comunidad.
