There are so many obvious changes social media has brought to our world, but there's also a huge number of changes it has brought which are not obvious but only revealed to the deeper thinkers and those who study and are enthusiastic about sociology and psychology.

First of all, do you understand how much of a huge change social media is to the way of life of man kind? Have you ever tried to grasp with your mind the enormity of the change? Think about how man used to live and interact with each other in the past. Contact usually had to be made. You had to see the person or send someone else.

Then came letters and telegraphs and telephones. Compare these three with social media. How easily you reach people with social media, the number of people you can reach in absolutely no time. Really insane if you think about it. Also apart from the obvious changes there are sure to be other less obvious changes with far reaching consequences that research would bring to light with time for sure.

In a [previous post]( I talked about some of the unobvious negative effects of the social media feature of having your friends around you all the time. Today I'm going to talk about:

How Social Media Would Make Women Live Longer

And it's really simple!

Now, I know in our world today a lot of people talk about the negative effects of social media more, and when it comes to women they mostly talk about the pressure social media mounts on them to look more perfect, do better make up, buy better wears and accessories, use better cameras, look like they're living the life, etc.

I know all that and the role they can play in ruining ones psychological well being. But I'm presenting to you a feature of social media that is boosting the lifespan of the female folk of this generation and that feature is this: COMPLIMENTS!!!

Yes, compliments! Before the advent of social media a female's only way of receiving compliments was getting it from the people around her, especially the men. How many men would she meet in her life? How many men would she meet that would compliment her? 10? 20? 100?

Whatever number you think in today's world you have to multiply it by at least 10! Because due to social media women are meeting hundreds of more men than their female ancestors and getting hundreds of more compliments too!

A woman would open a profile on social media and usually have men in her inbox, on her posts, on her comments, etc. Paying compliments to her up and down. Even the ugly females! The same way there is misogyny in our culture is the same way there is love for women and one of the most common ways this love is shown is by paying compliments to women even if they're ugly.

Go on the posts of females and see all the "cute", "beautiful", etc people are leaving for them as comments. That's how it is in their inboxes, etc. And how are these compliments going to make their lives longer?

Psychological Effects of Compliments

Here is an excerpt from Leidenpsychologyblog:

A few years ago, in a study where participants’ brains were scanned using MRI, researchers discovered that receiving compliments led to similar activation in reward areas of the brain, such as the striatum, as receiving monetary gifts. This suggests not only that social and monetary rewards are processed in a similar manner, but also that social rewards can feel just as good as monetary rewards. This may explain why people sometimes forego monetary benefits to help other people: the warm glow you get from helping that poor refugee child may make you feel so good that you’re happy to sacrifice a few euros.

More emphasis should be placed on the "striatum". That's the part of the brain activated by rewards in social situations.

I know that even without presenting scientific evidence we all knew that compliments made a person feel good. Now think further about how these good feelings can affect our lives. How it can fight depression and how this fighting of depression is one of the most important factors affecting health as so many disease and bodily malfunctions are caused by depression. Like the following (from Medical News Today:

The effects of depression may extend beyond a person’s emotions and mental health. Depression can also affect a person’s physical health.

Gastrointestinal problems, Insomnia, Heart Disease, Worsening chronic health conditions, Sexual health problems, inflammation, chronic pain, weight loss and gain, etc.

Also, for centuries women have been raised to seek approval from men and get their highest fulfilments from impressing men. (You can see this in how much a woman needed marriage in order to attain any relevance). In today's world feminism and increased knowledge is doing a good job of reducing this but huge traces and remnants of this is still in the psyche and subconscious of majority of women. This being so, you can see the long way these compliments would go in giving women fulfilment.

Hahaha!
This might explain why a lot of (ugly) men choose female avatars for their social media accounts.
