A gap in the bridge connection

Hello Steemian
When the weather is sunny, the bungus invited me to bike. We cycled around the small town where we lived. a city bounded by the Bengawan Solo River. Bengawan Solo is one of the major rivers on the island of Java. When we were on the bridge my son stopped and saw the river flow which was quite heavy. I just want him to be careful not to fall into the river. The youngest obeyed what I said. But when he saw the gap in the bridge connection he watched carefully. The youngest waved to me.
"Well, why does this bridge have to have a gap in the connection? Wouldn't it be dangerous if someone gets pinched? Wouldn't it be better if there were no connections to make it stronger?" the youngest asked eagerly.
I smiled at the critical attitude and great curiosity. I hope this child will grow up to be a smart and kind person.
"Let's go across the bridge so I'll explain later."
We hurried across to find a place to buy drinks. I will also explain that his curiosity will be fulfilled. Of course I as a parent want children to know correctly and use methods that are easily understood by children.

Not curling and breaking

Each frame of the building was built using steel construction. Iron is a metal that will expand when exposed to heat. Likewise, the bridge frame that uses steel. As with other metals that expand when it receives heat, it needs a space to expand. This will provide security to the bridge. For that on the bridge connection will always be given a gap. of course the gap doesn't make a person or vehicle fall into the gap. .
The gap between the two concrete road tracks on the bridge is made so that the road does not crack when the road experiences expansion on a hot day. On bridges made with iron frames, iron will expand if the temperature rises. That is why between the end of the bridge frame and the concrete pillar is given an expansion gap.
The concept of cavities or gaps between the iron using calculations and pay attention to the nature of the expansion and shrinkage of solid objects that can be caused by changes in temperature. Roads in the dry season are damaged and cracked, due to expansion of steel and asphalt. Bridges and highways are made of steel which are connected to each other. During the connection process, construction experts must really take into account the expansion and shrinkage of steel due to changes in temperature, both on hot days and on cold nights.
So that the steel connections are not curved due to expansion or shrinkage, the steel connections must not be installed tightly with each other. There must be sufficient cavities between the connections so that no damage to the bridge and road arises due to the expansion and shrinkage of the steel.
so now it is clear why the bridge connection is always given a gap to maintain the security of all road users.
Thus all my writing this time may useful for all of us

Thank you for reading my post. I hope you enjoy it.
