Differentiation between clinical practice and scientific method

The pandemic caused by the new coronavirus broke out without giving any truce to the scientific community and much less to clinical practice (clinical practice being understood as the procedures performed by physicians to treat pathological conditions that trigger diseases in humans), because, at the scientific level, experimentation has been slow, while at the medical level, even when the procedures have been sophisticated, they have not stopped the advance of Covid-19.

Now, having stated the above, it is important to mention that in social jargon and even at the governmental level, clinical practice and the scientific community are often confused, i.e. physicians with scientists, without stopping to think that they are different jobs, and that they involve different goals and methodologies.

For example, in clinical skills, the physician performs his procedure by observing the patient, and bases his practice on sensory experiences, in which sensitivity and experience are of great importance when prescribing or administering a given drug.

While the scientist does not determine his role in prescribing or administering a particular drug, on the contrary, he uses the scientific method, sets hypotheses, creates multiple layers and filters to identify and correct errors, with the aim of discovering a new result at different stages of experimentation.

If we weigh the two positions, i.e. the clinical practice of the physician and the experimentation of the scientist, we will find significant differences, therefore, it is not by chance that scientists opposed the administration of drugs or the application of early treatments against Covid-19, this consideration against the medical practice is due to the fact that the scientific community is opposed to medication without a previous scientific conclusion.

The neuralgic points or those of major difference, between clinical practice based on observations and anecdotal appreciations, is that, for the scientist, the administration of a drug to counteract a disease should be carried out when its efficacy is experimentally and statistically valid.
