It is very easy to predict the future of any young African by simply tracing what the person does with his/her data on a daily basis. In other words, data consumption can be a very powerful tool to predict someone's future. If am opportuned to peruse your phone and all I could find are different games, several movies, funny jokes, pictures and things that holds no value, then I may be tempted to doubt if you are actually ready and hungry for success.

Consequently, If all you do as a young person in such a horrible and horrifying third world continent as ours is watch home movies, browse through social media, browse through irrelevant sites, watch BBNaija show, watch Zeeworld/Telemondo, watch premier/champions league, play games, eat and yawn throughout the day, then sleep and wake up to repeat the same cycle....hmmm! Then it could be that your village people have sworn on your behalf...God forbid!

It's very sad and doleful to point out that while so many African youths waste their data on frivolities, some use theirs to add value to their lives. For a smart youth, the essence of data is to increase value and not just for browsing through social media. I repeat, the true essence of data is to increase your value.

The world has changed including her educational system. The education that is invoke now is data or mobile education, no longer formal education. This is a smart, stress free, affordable, value adding, skill impacting and easy to use type of education because every information you require is at the click of your thumb. This is where the world has delved into.

Unfortunately, most Africans do not yet want to understand this fact. Most undergraduate are still waiting for school resumption to resume education while the smart ones are using this season to add tremendous value to themselves. On the other hands, most graduates are waiting for the world to recover from the grave impact of covid 19 so they could possibly secure a better paying job, while the smart ones are leveraging on the season to increase value because to them education is a lifetime adventure.

This further raises the question as to why formal education is overrated especially in Africa? Well, to answer this question is to simply submit the fact that whenever the school system stops issuing certificate upon graduation, so many people if not everyone will stop going to the University. Hence, this underscores the fact that people go to school not just for education but for a "CERTIFICATE".

However, in contrasts, nobody needs a degree to become a salesperson, a business man, a CEO, an Entrepreneur, an Inventor, a musician, a writer etc. This is because, the foundation of education is information and if someone could get information from any platform about his or her chosen field of interest and practice, then the person is educated. Is certificate bad? Not at all. Get the certificate if you can, but most importantly get education.

I understand the fact that as a young person, you may not actually be bouyant enough to buy a course from udemy, Udacity etc but my dear with Google and Youtube alone, you can have a free unlimited access to deluge of information on the web.

Google/Youtube is a university that can educate, skill up, empower and employ you for life when deployed effectively. Meanwhile, one interesting feature of youtube in particular is the fact that it has a very smart algorithm which studies virtually every information you consume on its platform and supply you with more useful and interesting ones.

It's high time we stopped wasting our data on frivolities, it's high time we stopped reducing technology to chatting and sharing pictures on social media. It's time to begin a new journey towards any career or profession you probably weren't opportuned to study in school. YouTube and Google are invaluable tools that can help you achieve that very fast.

By understanding time conversion and harnessing the power of technology, our generation can begin to raise the next generation of Bill Gates, Steve jobs and Zuckerbergs.

Friends, Education is all about information and practice and with just Google and YouTube one can access any information he/she needs on planet Earth. So, if you haven't been making good use of these two apps, it's high time you started using them for your personal and professional development.
