Teachers Guide on how to teach Factors affecting grassland habitat and its food chain.
Subject:- Biology
Class:- SS2
Topic:- Food chain in a grassland and factors affecting grassland habitat.
Duration:- 40 minutes
Date:- 6th ,May 2020
Behavioural Objectives:-
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:-
1. Draw a food chain representing grassland habitat.
2. List and write on three(3) factors that effects grassland habitat.
Instructional Material(s):-
A chart showing the food chain in grassland habitat.
Introduction:-
Presentation
Step 1:- Food chain in a grassland habitat.
The savanna is also a community where there are several food chains. Example of food chains In the grassland habitat include:-
1. Grass--> Grasshoppers-->Lizards-->Snakes.
2. Grass-->Zebras-->Lions
3. Grass-->Grasshoppers-->Toads-->Birds.
Step 2:- Factors Affecting Grassland Habitat.
1. Light Intensity:-
Light intensity is very high since there is little vegetation to shield its rays. Also photosynthetic activities are high in this habitat.
2. High Temperature:-
The grassland is affected by extremes of temperatures which range from 21-30degree celcius. The annual temperature range is 11 degree celcius.
3. Moderate rainfall:-
The grassland has an annual rainfall of about 600-1500m. It has seasonal conventional rainfall with single maximum.
4. Fertile Soil:-
Soil in grassland is always Bert fertile as most of the nutrients are not leached or eroded because of low rainfall.
Evaluation:-
The teacher ask the students question to ascertain the level of their understanding:-
1. Draw a food chain representing grassland habitat.
2. List and write on three(3) factors that effects grassland habitat.
Homework:-
1. List two factors affecting grassland habitat
2. Draw a food chain representing grassland habitat.
