Step 1: What is Soil Fertility?
Soil fertility is the ability of soil to sustain plant growth. This is possible through the use of manure and fertilizers.

Step 2: Characteristics of a fertile soil

  1. Ability to supply essential plant nutrient in adequate amount.
  2. Good drainage
  3. The absence of toxic substances which may prevent plant growth.
  4. Ability to supply soil water in adequate amount for plant growth.

Step 3: Ways of Improving Soil Fertility

  1. Application of manure and fertilizers
  2. Mulching
  3. Addition of compost
  4. Bush fallowing

Evaluation:
To ascertain their level of understanding, the teacher will take the two soil, plant the beans in them and ask the pupils to take record of them watering them every day until they see growth.
