DBCC Commands - What are DBCC commands in SQL server

avatar

In this post, I am going to explain What are DBCC commands in SQL server. Previously I have completed the Reporting Server in SQL Server. Prior to this I also covered some of the basics of the SQL Server.

For example, In earlier posts, I completed How to Install SQL Server 2019 on Windows. I also learned how to use CRUD Operations in SQL Server.

Previous tutorials on the topics were specific for the data and example. For example, I also covered the topic on how to import, export CSV data from the SQL Server. For this I managed to use the SQL Server Management Studio.

You can read about Import Export CSV File in SQL Server. This should give you an insight on how to import the data through wizard in SQL Server Management Studio. It's a simple tutorial on how to do just that with the Data import Wizard.

So here in todays tutorial, I am going to explain how to use DBCC Commands in SQL Server. Do take a look at the below video, take some coffee and relax while watching this. It'd guide you to some of the commands that you can use in the SQL Server.

So what are the DBCC Commands in the SQL Server? How do they work?

DBCC commands are the commands used in the SQL Server while doing the administration tasks. You can use these commands for performing some of the operations on the data and the database that would give you an idea on the database you are working with.

DBCC commands are basically database console commands, so it is in short named as DBCC. There are some of the categories of the commands which are sorted and also the properly assigned for each type of the tasks that is done on the database.

  • Maintenance
  • Miscellaneous
  • Informational
  • Validation

If you don't know about some of the commands then you can simply make use of the HELP command and get an idea on how to make use of the data that comes out of it after that. A lot of interesting data that you can get here and learn from with the time.

Here in case of the tutorial, I have made the simple commands and then I decided to make use of the most common commands being used. I feel that some commands are often used while others are not used or ignored a lot by most DBA. So I thought the above tutorials in the video should be useful for you.

Do you know you can use these commands from the Powershell. Like if you have installed the Powershell application for the SQL Server. Which should give you an idea on executing these commands.

In near future, I have few of the specific topics to cover. For example, covering the topic of the temporal data. I also want to cover the topic of the advanced queries. Something which would require a lot of data and also some example to cover as well.

If you happen to like this content, do give me feedback over there and that would help me improve my efforts in near future.
