11ty - How to Create and Deploy 11ty Website

avatar

How to create static site using 11ty. This post is going to show you just that. It's been a while since I made any coding related post. So this post is about creating a static site with the help of 11ty.

I have made a video of this presentation. So if you are in search of the visual demonstration of how to do just that, you can take a look at the 11ty. It would be easier to make use of the YouTube video to learn the basics.

Now that we are done with formal intro and the link to youtube. Let's discuss the practical method through which we can create and deploy 11ty website.

Here's what you need to work with 11ty.

  1. Make sure node.js is installed.
  2. Make sure you have yarn installed.
  3. Follow the steps below to download 11ty and setup project.

Where to deploy the project?

You can use Vercel, Netlify, Heroku and Render and fly. Those are some of the sites where you can publish your content. They have both free and paid plans that you can make use of and also easier to host for your static and limited dynamic data.

My personal choice is vercel for small sites and projects. It helps when you are staying invested with such type of the projects and want to use for free for some time.

What to do after this?

Make sure to create new pages or the posts (if you intend to use it as a blog). You can also beautify the pages. Make sure to write the CSS file and then link the file per page or post. Per post or per page editing can also be done but having a uniform design, code and the data across makes things a lot easier to maintain.

I personally would find the themes to use for the sites and the blogs. You would be able to beautify the site lot quicker. As there are many themes build on the top of this already. So all you have to do is just make the theme and push it in your project. That would make the project easier to setup as well.

Where to use 11ty?

There are many ways with which you can make use of 11ty. Say you want to have a static site then 11ty is a good option. You want to have blog on the top of the 11ty with static site framework. Then yes you can make use of the 11ty. I think another good use case of the 11ty is making use of it in the sites which you want to make use of for quicker hosting.

Say you want to have those form based sites where you collect the data and post it on other sites. Something that you can do for most of the marketing pages, data collection pages etc. That is possible with the 11ty. I'd definitely use 11ty in this context if you can.

I hope this post gets you to learn the 11ty for setup and also deploy on the web.
