Women's Contributions To The United States Space Program 🎥 Hidden Figures

In the spirit of International Women's Day on March 8th, I would like to highlight a movie that brought the story of some remarkable women in science - mathematics to be exact - and engineering to my attention. Even though the movie is loosely based on the real story, without it I wouldn't have known the key part these women played in history.

The movie I'm referring to is Hidden Figures, which features the contributions of Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson and Dorothy Vaughan to the United States space program as mathematicians and engineers at NASA.

I'll have to admit that much of the story has been dramatized or altered for the purpose of storytelling - which often happens with movies based on real events - but without this movie the contributions these women have made - despite the troublesome times of the 1960's - could have gotten forgotten. Heck, they were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2019, long after two had died. Mrs. Johnson was the only one still alive at the time.

Now back to the movie, which follows the three women being determined to put their skills as mathematicians to use, while dealing with segregation laws, discrimination and ignorance, even in the workplace. Despite all their trials they stayed professional and let their work speak for them, which garnered them respect. They even kept developing themselves by attending classes, which helped them get the much deserved promotions.

If you would like to know more who got which promotions, I suggest you to watch the movie. Furthermore, I would like to see more movies sharing these stories, even if they are "altered" in some ways, because that would at the very least bring the contributions of women in history to the forefront and who knows they might inspire young women to pursue careers in STEM.

@rarej(3/3) gave you LUV. H-E tools | connect | <><

LUV in the dark? The confirmation-reply may soon be turned off. This would be to conserve and replenish Resource Credits. Even while operating in the dark, your LUV command will still go through as usual. You can always monitor LUV in your wallet, at explorer A or at explorer B, or best, in real time at the luv-log channel on Discord.
