Reseña: Cielo de octubre // Review: October Sky

A veces más que vocación necesitamos inspiración, para tratar de conseguir algo. En esta película basada en hechos reales, vemos cómo unos jóvenes se inspiran por la carrera espacial, donde tratarán de cambiar su situación. Estrenada en 1999, siendo su director Joe Johnston.

Sometimes more than vocation we need inspiration, to try to achieve something. In this film based on real events, we see how some young people are inspired by the space race, where they will try to change their situation. Released in 1999, being its director Joe Johnston.

Sinopsis: En plena guerra fría, la URSS toma la delantera en la carrera espacial al lanzar Sputnik al espacio. Este evento que puede presenciar todo un pueblo llamado Coalwood, inspira a unos jóvenes liderados por Homer Hickam. Ellos tratarán de realizar su propio cohete, con el que piensan participar en una gran feria científica y conseguir una beca para la universidad.

Synopsis: In the middle of the cold war, the USSR takes the lead in the space race by launching Sputnik into space. This event, which can be witnessed by a whole town called Coalwood, inspires some young people led by Homer Hickam. They will try to build their own rocket, with which they plan to participate in a big science fair and get a scholarship to college.

El género del título sería el de superación personal, ya que muestra cómo unos jóvenes de un pueblo donde todos acaban dedicándose a trabajar en una mina de carbón; deciden rebelarse de ese destino. No solo por compañeros e incluso autoridades escépticas, sino de sus padres, que prefieren seguir el plan establecido. Para ello se mostrará todo el proceso de aciertos y errores, alianzas, y otros métodos, para conseguir su objetivo. Es bastante motivadora esta película.

The genre of the title would be that of self-improvement, as it shows how some young people from a town where everyone ends up working in a coal mine; they decide to rebel against that destiny. Not only by skeptical peers and even authorities, but also by their parents, who prefer to follow the established plan. For this, the whole process of successes and mistakes, alliances, and other methods, to achieve their goal will be shown. It is quite motivating this movie.

Lo único raro es que a veces hacen saltos sin explicar mucho de cómo llegaron a ciertos puntos; o cuando el protagonista sufre un robo. Sin embargo, el mensaje que transmite es fuerte, dejando una buena sensación al verla.

The only weird thing is that sometimes they make jumps without explaining much of how they got to certain points; or when the protagonist suffers a robbery. However, the message it conveys is strong, leaving a good feeling when watching it.

El protagónico lo agarra un joven Jake Gyllenhaal, donde desde ya destaca su carisma. La fotografía no es la mejor, supongo por la década en que se realizó, pero pareciera más antigua. Los demás aspectos técnicos cumplen.

The leading role is played by a young Jake Gyllenhaal, where his charisma stands out. The photography is not the best, I guess because of the decade in which it was made, but it looks older. The other technical aspects are good.

Me ha gustado bastante el mensaje que deja esta película, y por la forma en que está contada, acaba siendo bastante entretenida. Recomendable.

I quite liked the message that this film leaves, and the way it is told, it ends up being quite entertaining. Recommended.
