Tips for Beginners on Hive / Ein Guide für Neulinge auf Hive

Liebe Leute,Dear Hivers,
I know there are tons of such guides out there (example), but I want to show here from my very personal point of view, after almost 6 years on Steem->Hive, a practical way to make the best out of the huge - and sometimes confusing - Hive universe, depending on your priorities.

Hive is much more than just a Web3 blogging and social media platform, e.g. the gaming & investment aspects are equally important but in this part I focus on posting & commenting - and how to gain more followers.

What MidJourney is imagining as a "fresh" blogpost 😀

Was ist ein guter post? / What makes a good post?

Welche Seite? / Which frontend to choose?

There are several frontends to choose from but regardless where you post, your posts will be seen at all of them. For mobile usage one can only recommend Ecency (formerly known as Esteem).

Apart from that I recommend to post using Peakd - it has the most features e.g. "collections" or a cool portfolio-view (example), a chat-function, and has the best wallet fully integrated.

Crypto- and finance-related content one could also post using Leofinance and there are many others, called "tribes" with their own frontend, for instance StemGeeks for rather science and tech content. The difference with Leofinance and StemGeeks is that their primary token is not Hive but a different one like LEO or STEM and Hives will be rewarded in addition.

Die Länge / The length

Some post a picture with 2 lines, others a post with >1000 words and 20 pictures, but not so often. If you are still new and have hardly any followers, the second variant is probably not worth it, so it would be better to write shorter, "crisp" posts. But your introduction post (don't forget the #introduceyourself tag!) can be quite long and detailed. This increases your chances of getting a few followers right from start.

Das Thema / The topic
Sucht Euch etwas aus, was Ihr mögt und was Ihr gut könnt bzw. kennt.
Pick something which you like and which you know or are good at. There are countless communities on Hive, from photography and travel to do it yourself, gaming (mostly about games on Hive), chess, architecture, AI-art, and of course the huge finance, crypto & investment-community which I had mentioned before! In most of them you will find like-minded people who will upvote and comment on your posts and also posts on which you may comment. Communities may have their own rules, respect them! More about communities and how to find them and post there in this cool guide from @erikah.

Tip: If you post in a communitiy, don´t forget to crosspost or reblog that post in your own blog, otherwise it can be less transparent if people visit your profile page! Unless of course you think that post fits only in that community and should not appear on your blog.

Bilder /pics

The post gets more entertaining, if it is accompanied by appropriate pictures. For photo-, nature or travel-posts this is apparent but for more abstract topics it might get challenging to find the right pic. In any case, all pics or screenshots which were not created by yourself should have a reference/source added, like with copied&pasted text.

Tip: Why not create a pic using one of those AI-bots like Dall-E or MidJourney? It is more creative than always use pixabay and the like (I find those picture databases in the meantime quite boring). By the way, there is also a stock image-community on Hive, check it out for some inspiration!

Finally, in peakd under "advanced" pick the picture which represents best your post as thumbnail (per default the first one is selected)!

Layout

Only if the total composition is balanced and a structure is added, the post gets really good. E.g. in more lenghty posts, start with 2 to 3 sentences explaining what the reader can expect from the post.
Add generously paragraphs and spaces (and pics, banners,...) but don´t overdo them. Nobody wants to read a very long text without any breaks, but on the other hand nobody wants to get lost among too many pics.
Also take care that the title of the post fits to the content. Should be a no-brainer, but there are examples out there.
I would strongly advice that you should keep your text short and crispy and that you not approach the core of the post in a long-winded way like some love to do. You might lose readers, patience is not granted.
The spice is in the brevity!

A mixture of text with the right images, banners,... is the best. Just my view, tastes are apparently different and you have to play around, what brings the best results.
There are guides out there how to best fit pics into a text, e.g. this one by @sjarvie5. Banners you can pick e.g. from here, here or check out this impressive collection by @doze!
But be careful, too many "flashy" stuff makes the post uneasy and distracts from reading!

If you want to know how a certain post or item was formatted (e.g. how the red text above was done), just replace "peakd" with "hiveblocks" in the URL and you'll see the source code and could apply the formatting! That easy!

At the end of a post many add things like "please upvote & reblog" or add graphics with some (marketing-)slogans or huge lists of links to always the same past posts.
My advice: Skip the begging and don´t blow up the post with unnecessary stuff. If it is good, people will vote it even without a reminder!

Last not least: Don´t forget to use as much relevant tags as possible, up to 10, which might increase the visibility of you post! But avoid tag spamming. By the way, also name dropping I personally don´t like at all! Some think it is smart to constantly mention some whales, for occasional upvotes - not a good idea!

You want to change the post afterwards? No problem, since some time this is possible without any limitations. But be careful, on the Blockchain all versions of a post are stored. You can view them e.g. with peakd via the "three point menu" at the end of the post - very handy!

Wie man Follower bekommt / About Gaining Followers

After the #introduceyourself and some other posts are out, there might come a dry spell where you don´t have yet enough followers for your posts to get meaningfully noticed (and upvoted). We all had this! You need patience and resilience to overcome it and following these tips might help, too:

Kommentieren / Doing comments

Doing comments is super important to gain followers on Hive, and not only random followers but the relevant ones! Thus, especially if you are still quite new to Hive, invest at least as much time in writing meaningful comments as in writing posts! For this of course you have to read a lot of posts!

What is a meaningful comment? One that e.g. adds some additional facts, asks a relevant question or even shares a conflicting opinion. Avoid purely praising/flattering and affirming comments ("great post!"). Sure they are nice, but they will not arouse any interest in you.

It is also beneficial that if someone commented on your post, appreciate it by a small upvote (ideally above the dust treshold of 0.025 Hive) and by answering!

Engagement is the key. This might include that you are active on more than one community depending on your hobbies (and the amount of time you have).

Beitragen / Add value

Ideally, you write (or vlog) about something that others also want to read/see or where there is a need or a gap. There are no limits to your imagination here, but it's also not predictable, it depends on your strengths. If you think you can do something, be it a new project/initiative, create a new community that doesn't exist yet, tell how you want to bring or have brought friends to Hive, organize a meeting with other Hivians, organize a contest, etc., just do it and write about it!
Be consistent, the more interactions, the better!

"Marketing"
Yes, self advertisment is sometimes beneficial to proceed faster. There are ample possibilities for this.
For instance many communities have their own discord channels. Engage there as well and maybe you can promote your current post there. Via Reverio, a still quite new project, you can ask a question to the whole Hive community and via Threads you can tweet to the Leofinance-Community (or just a link to your post). Or you run a poll using dpoll.

Invest
It's not much different on Hive than in real life out there. If you have a high HP stake, you are perceived differently than someone with an almost empty wallet. As unfair as it is, one option, if you have the means, would be to gradually buy some Hive, ideally regularly which will equalize price changes (cost average effect). I've done that over the last 6 years and I've never regretted it.

Fazit / Summary

This post has become long again, although I could only touch on a few points. I hope that one or two useful items were there for you! Was something not clear? Write me a comment!
Who would be happy about a part 2, where I would go into more detail about the economy / how you can optimize your rewards and your ROI?

So findet man "passende" Leute.

Thank you very much for the information which means a lot to me but there is something missing from your post, this is not a matter of protesting or blaming but more of a suggestion which is about the space of your two languages, languages that blend together without spaces makes me confused to find where to start words that I can read because I don't understand your language, what I know is English. So this line layout or spacing is not quite right in my opinion. Sorry in advance for my comments like this

I don´t understand what you mean. You just read on the right side (english) and ignore the other language. What is confusing for you? Which frontend are you using?

I mean word

I mean wordsI mean the words in your language and English are mixed up and some are lacking in spacing so it's a bit confusing for me to read it and look for a language layout that I can translate. Here I use cellular and use essence on chrome. Is it possible that this is a mistake from me because you said there is a layout on the right and what I see is not like that

Oh, I see. You would need to take only the English part and put it to a translator. True, not very comfortable, but I prefer it this way, as for the reading columns are better.

I think there are many unique things that could go into making a post that is interesting to read or engage with. Personally I feel it's finding your voice and speaking from Passion about stuff you like, and that way you create content that's more engaging and exciting. I do think it's hard for a lot of people to get into writing long-form content and so front ends such as D.BUZZ @DBUZZ AND TIPU, are important to allow more people to experiment with content and ideas.

Totally do another post explaining different methods to build engagement and different ways to earn on the blockchain.

Hive is much more than just a Web3 blogging and social media platform, e.g. the gaming & investment aspects are equally important but in this part I focus on posting & commenting - and how to gain more followers.

Good summation of what Hive is and an excellent document for newbie users, well done on pulling this together. It will be invaluable to early users if they find it.

Great open and honest point here and I must say that I find it to be true myself too, people definitely have a look at your HP before interacting if they don't already know you. Solid advise on the dollar cost averaging too and even if someone wanted to pump in $1K to $5K now would probably be still a good time, as I consider $0.36 Hive to represent very good value.
