Another WORKOUT in my 'DUNGEON GYM'

avatar
(Edited)

Today was a day to train mostly those stubborn biceps and triceps that have been refusing to grow...!!! It isn't so bad that our muscles decide not to respond as expected (from past experience) but it's certainly frustrating after having atrophied and looking to re-gain what was lost.

That's the position I'm in these days, because I took a longggggggggg... lay-off from training with the weights last year and lost a LOT of size and strength, as a result; I almost feel normal now...!!!

I don't like to feel normal... I much prefer to feel stronger and healthier :>)

What's even more disappointing, is that those arms of mine had always been quick to respond in the past. I swear... there were times that I thought my biceps were growing, just by thinking about them? We all have some type of genetic gifts and one of mine was above average strength and muscular size, that easily was increased by weight training.

THINGS CAN CHANGE though; especially as we age. Though most people I encounter at the gym are amazed by how I look and perform, once learning that I'm 71 years old. The way 'I' look at it though... I can be and do - better.

AND, I will too...!!!

It's not that I'm ungrateful for what I've been blessed with, it's more due to slacking off sometimes (a bit too long) which causes a reversal of personal gains. Sticking points are fine and can be expected at times, regardless of dedication, but loss due to laziness or just plain lack of motivation - sucks.

One of the reasons I continue to exercise and write about it, is not just for personal reasons. I like to pass on, by example to others any knowledge I've acquired in life, which may help them as well.

Too many of us, seem to go through life carrying false illusions about what is and what is not possible to personally achieve. Much of the negativity remains rooted in the acceptance of myth.

All too often I've heard people lament false reasoning as to why they cannot do something... When it comes to starting an exercise program, beyond a certain age, it's common for people to say, "I'm too old now". That's sad for me to hear, because I know it's false.

Other very common retorts from people, regardless of age is, "I don't have the time to exercise" or "I get enough exercise at work every day"... Two other false notions. Yet, I can usually see in their eyes, that it is said sort of flippantly; what I'm actually hearing is, "I hate exercising".

After all these years of hearing such things, I'm able to take it all with a "grain of sand". I no longer feel compelled to try and change their mind, like I did in my younger days. Why waste emotional energy on such negativity? 'LIVE and let LIVE' as the saying goes...

If I encounter a person with even the slightest interest in improving their health and fitness, who might turn to me for encouragement, then... I'm always happy to help - if I can.

ANYWAYzzzzzzzz.....

Being 'old' and having set-backs in my training routine, is not going to make me throw my hands up in defeat; I'm pushing onward my friends... You should too...

NEVER GIVE UP on trying to accomplish anything you deem important for yourself.

Stay well and keep a smile on your face.

Ciao

I know man all that matters is being consistent I took a lot of months off working out myself now trying to get back in the motion of things! It's like going back to something you know you've done a lot more at lol but it's all got to do main thing is to not quit and keep going no matter where you got back to. I myself have been doing a lot of other things last year. Anyhow did shoulders today feeling like I'm getting back in motion myself. Check out my community I know it may not be your thing but I've got plans to take it forward a long way https://peakd.com/c/hive-123620/created

Yeah...@polarmystro The longer you train and bigger you are, it takes longer to get it all back after laying off for a long time - worse as we get 'OLD'...!!! I used to be able to come back (naturally) in about two short months in my younger days😎 Not now...

I checked your community and wish you success with it. I'll subscribe to at least boost your members list. My son is more the Hip-Hop, Rap and Beatz guy (An age thing) He hung with 'Infamous Mob Deep', 'WU Tang' and spoke of a NAZ back in the day - Queens, New York... Queens Bridge Projects.

Before I read.. who took the picture? Who stood there within 12" inches while you flexed and fake smiled? Be back. Next time I'm in this area right here, it's likely I've read your content. Was it a dude?? It was a dude wasn't it?

I'm back. I got a couple things. Firstly, nice read and congratulations staying in shape. You look great for an old ass MF'er. The example you're setting for people around you who change themselves without you saying anything.. prouda you man.

Hold on.. I'm texting right now on the shoulder press, I'll be done in a minute, wait.....

My story:
As you know I'm relentless in there too. Dude when we got locked down for 7 months in England and I did everything to avoid losing my mind which even meant removing myself from the blockchain, I was going crazy—literally. Everything was closed dude, gyms will likely never open there again, there's no gyms open there now. We didn't have a vehicle, public transportation is all Covid to the Max. We couldn't go to restaurants or anything either because we were waiting for a plane ride and UK has a "Track & Trace" in operation where you have to divulge your personal information, download a monitoring app and all that crazy shit which meant if they tracked Pura and I and learned we were near someone with Covid, we wouldn't be able to leave.

You should see them Brits!! They can't wait to divulge their personal information to any and every employee at any and every establishment who hints toward asking and then side-eyes me and Pura every time we're like "go fuck yourself." ....'I'm Gerard Livingston, my address is.. my number is.. I work at.. I drive a.. my kids go to school at...'

Nuckin Futs!

I'm not boring you am I?

Better lie to me if I am

I got a buncha them rubber bands. Oooh, back up.. I'm 183.3-185.5 pounds seven days a week, 365, I don't have to weigh myself. I know my cardio, I know my calorie intake, I know my gym time, I know what the scale will tell me. So I got a bunch of rubber bands and I'm working out with those, doing push-up, sit-up, dips on the couch, anything I could think of for those 7 months—outta my mind.

I broke three of those rubber bands in the process.. they don't last forever and they don't come with a warning. I have a permanent scar actually you can see slightly on my ear and neck from one of those breaks.

Not sure how much longer this MF'er is gonna be you old ass MF'er but you better not be skimming!! So all that.. exercises in the house, rubber bands, cardio every day in the rain Cuz it rains every.single.mother.f'ing.day in England and, when we got back to the states, I immediately got in a gym there in Florida. We were there 10 days.. just waking my muscles up again but I'd been doing all those exercises in England so I wasn't far out.

Wasn't until we got to Nashville and I got in another gym. I jumped on the scale. @angryman, the thing said 162 pounds and I had ALL my clothes on!! Even had my fake leg on, my phone in my pocket, I was fully loaded. Bro I don't think I've been that light since junior high school—crazy! It took me 5 months (5, that's not a typo) to get back where I was but you know what? I guess because I leaned out so much like that, I'm running much more muscle now than I was back then. I typically have a tough time maintaining a 4-pack (cuz I've never had a 6-pack for some reason). Not now, though, or so it seems. That 30 pounds I put back on in the past five months is pretty raw. I've been in there twice a day, 7 days a week since arriving in Knoxville back in October to get back where I'm at and if you don't think your article is inspiring just read this long ass comment again.

I was on the horn immediately with Pura and @PlantsToPlanks that day. From the treadmill, it read.. "mayday'fa KING mayday!! I need weight gainers and whatever else you can think of, stat!!!!"

775 words (this is a record even for me). I don't know much about real estate but that's a lot. My math ain't great either so that number could be false. Everything you've read is true but that part about my math just now was fake noose

'I' took the picture with the timer setting...!!! Are you still using that old Brownie from the 50's!?!?!? Splurge a little and buy yourself something more modern and versatile!!! Jeepers-Creepers...

775 words... The longest comment I ever received (I think?) I feel sort of honored😏
I didn't even skim this time😇

Yeah, that must have been REALLY tough for you over there. It was crazier here in some states more than others, as you're seeing now that you're back. Here, all the gyms were shut down by mandate till recently when some began opening again.

It took me awhile to get regular with the little equipment I have at the house, because we get used to moving through workouts a lot quicker with Fitness Center's multiple machines, etc. I finally got used to the musty, old basement and minimalism.

My first workouts were with a fifty pound barbell at twelve or thirteen years of age, that my friend and I carried about a mile home from the store. I rolled it in and out from under my bed at the time.

At your height, that 160 odd pounds must have been a shock (a distance runner's build)

I can't remember ever having a six pack either... mine is a four like you, except when it's a ONE due to cake, pie, cookies and ice-cream.

Those pics of me are a few years old at least now while in my sixties still, but I'm still not far off from what you see - just having a harder time gaining it all back. My hormonal cascade must be all out of whack; I might opt for some TRT for the first time in my life!?!?!?

Right now, I'm starting to use some of my secret Herbal concoctions again, that worked in the past. They're helping a bit now, after about two weeks, I
feel fuller, a little stronger and back in the groove of the movements.

I'm good for my age, but know I can be and look even better with the right mindset. I'm not posting new pictures until the summer probably; when I'm back to looking like a Greek or Roman sculpture💪

Glad to hear your come-back was quick.

How many words is that...??? Can't match @dandays... You'd probably return with an edit if I did and stretch your comment out even further, for the one-up...!!!

I'm outta here, buddy...

Wow! 71, I almost don't want to believe that, but I know you wouldn't lie to me. I assume that jacked dude is your stunt double then. If it's not, you are more ripped than I've ever been in my life!!

Hi @justinparke, nice to hear from you. I was in my 60's when those shots were taken, but not far off from it now at 71... That lockdown forced on the gyms by malevolent actors, set me back a bit - but, I'm going to endure and conquer...😎 Unless I croak prior to my "Fifteen Minutes of Fame"...
