What is 3.14? Well, those are the first few digits of Pi. What is Pi? This is a mathematical constant represented by the Greek letter π, and today is all about celebrating the magical, transcendental number that is pi.

Pi has been around for centuries, perhaps even from the start of time itself, and it's still as fascinating as ever. So what is pi, exactly? According to math lore, pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. It's an irrational number that never ends and never repeats. Pi is also the basis for many other mathematical concepts.

There are a few things in life that are just universally known and accepted. One of those things is that Pi is important. But why is it so significant? Why do we need to understand about the power of a millionth of a degree of Pi and how it impacts our lives?

One big reason is that Pi is the same throughout the universe.

Pi isn’t a human-made number. It isn’t based on an equation that someone came up with. Pi is based on facts – fundamental, mathematical facts – and that’s why it is the same across the universe. No matter where you are in space, pi will be the same!
