Having both had tinnitus for 20 years and having meditated and focused on healing for 15 years, I have a lot to say on this. It's a pretty complicated topic.

In general it isn't wise to try to deny reality by creating blindspots in perception.
Research has shown that 95%+ people will experience tinnitus if they spend more than a few minutes in an an-echoic chamber (a special area with zero sound waves). It appears that the high frequency tones that I and others hear are actually the vibrations emanating from our own nerves, which we would ordinarily filter out. Something has triggered a shift so that we hear them.

In some cases, it could possibly be that hair damage is involved or bone structural issues as you pointed to.

One important thing to realise is that our brain is 'hard wired' to amplify quiet sounds in order to keep us safe, until the adrenaline cuts down because we are satisfied that the threat is mitigated or doesn't exist. Often people become very agitated and frightened by the sound's presence and focus on it. Then this triggers the amplification process and a feedback loop is created. So reversing the feedback loop can help.

Some people do try ways of masking the sound to reduce the stress and end the feedback loop, but in my experience, it is wiser to simply adjust thinking holistically so that acceptance is present and fear is felt and processed - plus expressed as vibration and allowed to transform. This is the part that most people never do (in almost any situation) because they are so heavily conditioned away from acceptance of their own real feelings (especially fear and anger) - plus they have no understanding of the need for emotion to be felt, accepted and moved (vibrated) in the body.

The ear/neck is a focal point for stress charges to be held in the body anyway - so getting this all right and healing is essential for longevity and balance, yet challenging. As you said, try everything - and don't give up the healing process, it is an opportunity to learn about parts of yourself that few understand.
